8 weeks does not equate to 3-4 months.
also, perhaps i'm just used to thicker pastures out here in oregon. don't matter none, the op ain't after that many at one time anyway.
oh, I forgot to add, sheep don't need much extra feed other than pasture and water. lambs go for around $75 or more apiece. that's extra money for the feed bill.
well, there's 43,560 square ft per acre. So 43 sq ft per bird for 8 or so weeks ain't bad. the sheep can have it for the other 44 weeks of the year.
point is, 1 acre can support a heckofa lot of birds, with some left over.
shouldn't be much of a problem raising around a thousand chickens per acre.
Personally though, I think I'd throw some (hair) sheep in with the chickens to help with the feed cost.
hello all,
I just got 15 free cornish cross chicks at wilco in O.C.
I had to buy 3 50# bags of feed at $19 a bag to get the free chicks.
5 free chicks per person, 10 free chicks per family. I took the neighbor girl with us to get the extra 5.
we'll see how it all works out.

There's a lengthy thread on this subject.
To find it, go to the top of the main Breed, Genetics, & Showing page. At the top, look for "notable threads" link.
Click on it, find the sex-link link.
You'll find lots of information there
Hello aoxa,
I love hearing about cornish cross projects. I'm curious, do you know which brand-name Big Bertha came from? cobb 500? or whatever?
Thanks mike
Never mind.
I just went anyway. For some reason I didn't see any road island reds. lots of other breeds though.
Seen a columbian rock poulet that was just gorgeous.
Nothing on the for sale side tempted me enough to spend my money. I stopped on the way home and bought 5 day old sexlinks...
Hello Oregon,
I was contemplating my chickens for next spring, and was wanting to ask a few questions of the folks here at large.
Is there a store around SE Port, Oregon city or someplace that sells cornishX in batches of 10?
Years ago there was a farm store on beavercreek rd close to less...
Hello,
Very sorry about your loss. One possible explanation might be a neighbor or someone fell in love with them and took them home? That's happened to my sister in the past.
Just a thought.

The hen turned 37 days old today.

2 girls left and 3 boys. Oh, and 25 cot jumbo eggs in...
