    My chickens go made for them as live near fields they play tug of war with them and eat the lot as if the mice was a delicacy ! Big tip do not try to poison the mice in case they wander into the coop they will kill the chickens if they eat them also I suffer with the mice nicking there feathers...

    Yes they will kill a mouse Iv watched my chickens kill and eat quite a few they go mad for them like eating steak ! And play tug a war with them ! Just a tip Do not use any mouse poised to kill mice as might wander into your coop and end up poisoning your chickens just let nature take it cause !

    Use old newspapers free if you can get people to donate beats straw prevents red mite ! Straw tends to hide red mites and expensive to buy !

    I have found by changing to old newspapers tear into strips about 1 inch long or 25 mm and remove all straw never use straw again then dust each time with dermacous Earth then add lavender gathered in summer into my nesting coop. ,I never have red mites and my chickens are laying right through...

    I use strips of newspapers about an inch never buy newspapers people donate they are easy to get rid of compost heap or bury them with the poo ready for veg or apples trees etc or burn the paper if it's got red mites !     My advise do not use straw red mites love it use shredded newspaper not little bits just get a new paper and rip down in about 1 inch strips not only can you use the poo etc for compost they love it keeps them warm and you can change it more frequently or even burn it if you see red mites...
