    Teeny Tiny Chick.

I would also like to hear from you about how your little chicks progressed, as I also have 3 new ones here, currently at 4 weeks old, and one of them is a lot smaller than the other 2. Here too the small one hides under the wings of one of the big ones, as if she was her adopted mom : )

Need help with prostrate chickens, not eating/drinking, loosing feathers

We got the results of the blood samples and they didn’t show anything wrong. So the combo heat + malnutrition because of the change in their feed is what probably happened 😔

Need help with prostrate chickens, not eating/drinking, loosing feathers

Thank you! Today we had the visit of a veterinarian. She took blood samples from our three remaining chickens and is going to test for diseases. Two weeks have passed and they are behaving normally, but you never know with chickens. She explained that since they are preys, they are “programmed”...

Need help with prostrate chickens, not eating/drinking, loosing feathers

Thank you for your reply! Unfortunately a necropsy would have cost us more than we could spare right now. We ended up incinerating the bodies, together with the shavings from the coop and the dried leaves and other organic material that were in the run floor. The chickens’ area was build around...

Need help with prostrate chickens, not eating/drinking, loosing feathers

Thanks for your reply! Sadly the second one didn’t make it either. They lost feathers from all over their body, not from a specific do place. We checked and none of them had any injuries or other sign that they had been attacked. So at this point I guess the combination of heat wave and not...

Need help with prostrate chickens, not eating/drinking, loosing feathers

Hi, all! A few hours ago I noticed that two of my 16 month-old Embrapa051 (Rhode Island Red X Plymouth Rock hybrids) were very prostrate, breathing faster, eyes closed, barely moving, not even to get to their lunch (they are usually very excited and run to the food immediately). They also lost a...

    Hello! New member from Brazil

Hello, everybody! I’m Elisa. My family and I have been raising egg laying backyard chickens for a year and a half now. We currently have 2 gris cendre and 3 Embrapa 051 (a hybrid between Rhode Island Red and Plymouth Rock, specially developed to the Brazilian environment). We raise them both for...
