A seemingly healthy hen (I checked her for mites, etc.) started to become obsessed with pecking at her claws; both lifting her feet up and pecking and while standing. Any ideas?
Sure! I've had chickens for 15 years, and have never used worming meds before, but will keeping checkin' samples for the worm loads, as I still don't want to routine use worm meds.
My chickens had hooks and whipworms. One hen was on her way out and now she's doing great after treating and also giving her flagyl (the vet recommended.) The panacur dosage recommended was- give for five days (individual dosing) then again in 10-14 days, then once a month. The vet wasn't clear...
Fecal on my chickens came back with whip worms and hookworms. Got liquid panacur from the vet. One hen is molting. What's the problem with Panacur and molting chickens?
Thanks-
I think you're right about the molt. We don't have a rooster, and the molting pattern this year has been weird, probably due to bizarre weather. The girls I was most worried about are 8 months old, and they haven't laid eggs in over 2 months.
We definitely have a few stragglers even though it's getting cold.I guess it's a good place for bug bites since it's exposed skin. Thanks. I'll keep an eye on the girls!
Yes. I buy from a local mill and the feed here is about the same price. It's dropped about $2.00. I also use organic feed and that is the same price. It's shipped from VA.
