So far three babies have hatched! These two actually came to the front to say hi! All a bunch of Golden fluffballs which means the comets were their mamas. So cute! I’m antsy to see if any other (cross) breeds hatch but I have work today so I can’t stay and tell.
Lol Chicken grandparent indeed! The hens I took from were mostly Australorps and Golden Comets. I also had a few EE eggs in there. My rooster had a buff orpington dad and I think a maran mom?
Just set some barnyard eggs. Hatch date will be 7/7 unless I don't know what math is lol. I just grabbed some eggs from our layers (who have a barnyard rooster I previously hatched and raised!) and threw them in the incubator. I've really missed incubating eggs lol.
Sooo I know I’m not supposed to open the incubator while they’re still hatching...but I promise I was quick and I added more water lol. They’re blurry but cute. Four Speckled Sussexes and two Olive Eggers! I might try real quick to get some better pictures later.
Joining late, but I have around a dozen eggs in the lockdown incubator, due to hatch technically May 2nd-3rd but there’s always the early hatchers lol. Mostly Olive Eggers, with some Speckled Sussexes and the occasional Maran or Turken
Good news: I was able to hatch one of the eggs and the chick is darn cute. Plus I already have some chicks so it won’t be alone.
Bad news: it was supposed to be a naked neck lol.
Either way it’s absolutely adorable and really downy? Compared to the other chicks.
Went a good long while without hatching eggs. And then one of my naked neck pullets started laying and I thought - “well let’s just see if they’re fertile”. Now it’s day 18 and I’m saying “well, let’s just see if I can hatch them”
Power should be back on in about 30 or so minutes. Parents have resorted to putting the entire damn thing in the car and plugging it into a power converter lol.
Sometimes you can find the JaNoel12 for cheap. I have two and they’re good incubators. You just need to put a hydrometer in there. I use mine for lockdown.
Lightning struck SOMETHING and now my ENTIRE neighborhood is out of power.
I had some of my first fertile turken eggs in the Nuture 360 and some quail in my Janoel. I really wanted to hatch those dang turkens. I’ve raised the parents since they were chicks! :barnie
While I did just come here to...
Chicks of different ages (or if I just have too many, which is often the case) go in separate brooders. I will put ducklings with chicks but only if the chicks are the same age as the ducklings or older, as I’ve noticed muscovies tend to play a little rough with the newly hatched chicks. Quail...
Final update!
Not all the quail I have but it’s the best picture I got lol. The brooder is small and dark so that they don’t feel stressed. They cry constantly but are much more used to humans than the bobwhites were. They don’t even run away from my hand. I’m not sure of the final hatch rate...
The coturnix quail hatch rate is already MUCH better than my previous bobwhite quail hatch rate!!!
Also!! Both of my muscovies pipped! I can finally breath a small sigh of relief. They’re still kicking! Still trying!
No pips from the ducks yet. :barnie
On the bright side, I went from no pips on the quail eggs to one quail baby running around the incubator!
Bad picture but I couldn’t get a good angle.
So I have all my chickens hatched, and quail and muscovies on their way.
Naturally, to fill the void (and...
