I use petroleum jelly when I know Temps will be low to protect their waddles and combs. Insuring your coop has enough ventilation is very important too!
I've had a weasel slowly taking my flock out. First he took 3 out in the run and most recently two in a closed up coop! He had gotten in through a small hole that had been chewed by him or another rodent. Holes have been closed up until walls can be replaced. I have a live trap set but so far...
I use food grade DE and put it in their feed. I also use the agricultural version (found in Tractor Supply) and sprinkled it through their nesting areas, dust bath, etc.
I've never had an issue.
I feed my chickens kitchen scraps all the time! Mainly fruits and veggies but they also get tuna, sardines a can of cat food once in a while. Scrambled eggs are one of their favorites! Tomorrow they are getting chopped up bits of my leftover steak from dinner. I just stay away from the no-nos...
I have 2 pugs that I had before the chickens. They watched the chickens grow from chicks into adults. Neither pay each other any attention. They are in the yard side by side quite often. As many have said, I think it depends on the dog. Many times its suggested to get a dog to protect...

I'm just curious. How do we know animals don't have the same attachment to their junk as humans do? Did someone ask them and get an answer? I think we make a lot of assumptions because that's what's make us feel better about what we're doing.

I just got this for inside my coop and I love it! One of my best purchases yet! It was super easy to install! Nice to be able to see inside the coop now that its getting dark earlier. I used to use my cell phone...
I have Orpingtons, Brahmas, Wyandottes, Barred Rocks and Ameraucanas. Never will I get Barred Rocks again. They are nasty witches and like to pick on everyone else. They can be very mean. Orps are the best - friendly and loving.
We all have to start some where and we all had our own reasons for starting when we did. Some will carry on and be successful while, as with anything else, some will decide they've bitten off more than they can chew. I love my chickens and all other animals and hate to think of any suffering...
They are not scaly leg mites. It's definitely from other hens pulling off the feathers. They get layer feed from.TSC, black oil sunflower seed and scratch.
Their coop is a shed a transformed and is shared with 7 hens and a rooster. They have a run which is 50'x30.'
I'm really at my wits end...
