The first rooster we had to cull my husband took his head off but I didn't like the flapping and the mess so this time I decided to try the broomstick method. I am not very big and strong but figured I would give it my best shot. I felt a 'pop' in the neck but then I started to worry because the...
I have my next 3 in incubators.... The next one after that planned in my head and number 5 will be whatever I pick up at the auction the week after next!
I moved my HAL eggs under a broody and now I'm frustrated because I can't see what's going on! She has kicked out one empty shell so I guess at least one has hatched. I hate not knowing what's happening in there :pop
It's my chick by the way......
I may not breed from it as the auto sexing was one of the most important things in choosing this breed for me, however I am planning to keep the chick, as soon as its legs are big enough I will tag it and will share photos as it grows. I have a few breeding groups...
I am unsure of this one too, no head spot like the other two males, but much lighter and less defined than the females. I think I will mark this one and see how it grows up but there should be no need to breed from it as I have plenty of other options now. Thanks everyone :)
I just did the same, while my hen was off the nest having her breakfast this morning I switched her fake & infertile eggs for some that have been in my incubator - due to hatch Saturday. She returned to the nest and has settled on them happily :D
I have a broody hen, it's her first time being broody. I don't want to give her fresh eggs because we will be away for a long weekend in 21 days, so I am going to give her my Easter hatch along eggs out of the incubator. I hope she can't count, and won't notice that it has not been 21 days ;)
I know they are very young, and I will be able to tell at around 4 weeks when the chest feathers come in but Welsummers are supposed to be sexable at day old so I just wanted to try.
Thanks Veer67, that's what I thought too, so if you are wrong, we both are!
