GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

For anybody who missed the most recent tool order and wants some, I have a double set I got through this thread a year and a half ago that I no longer need. I'd be happy to resell. (My Bresse project has come to an end.)

    Bresse Chickens

I am in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. I have four White Bresse pullets hatched last Memorial Day that are now laying. They were supposed to go to freezer camp last Fall but after dealing with the 8 roos I quit and let the girls join the laying flock. I'd be happy to share a couple with you.

GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

They are all black copper marans. Some are bigger than the others, but all pretty small still. I'll prep one, mark it and take pictures....probably tomorrow afternoon as I've reached my limit for today.

GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

They are all black copper marans, supposedly around six weeks old. Some are clearly older/bigger and those are the ones I started with. On one bird (maybe second?) I did see something that looked the right color but it was TINY - yes just like rice.... I bet I saw it and didn't recognize it...

GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

My day trying to caponize.... I've read this thread from start to finish, some of it multiple times. I've watched lots and lots of videos. I bought tools from Poco. I've practiced on birds from the grocery store. Saturday I brought home ten 6 week old cockerels and today I gave it my first...

    Bresse Chickens

I've read through the caponizing thread and bought the Chinese tools in two sizes. I plan to practice before trying it on the Bresse. I practiced on a fryer I bought at the grocery - good thing, as I went in from the front instead of the back - the teste was clear across the body cavity, which...

    Bresse Chickens

My 12 Bresse chicks came home from school today. They are 3 weeks old today. We set 15 eggs May 3rd. One failed to develop, one developed but failed to hatch. And one hatched and failed to thrive. The rest are strong and healthy and so so friendly. They came home to hatch over Memorial Day...

    Anyone setting eggs May 1st?

A third had hatched before I left school tonight. If they keep going at this rate I should be able to bring them home tomorrow night - all hatched! Thanks for your input on moving them. Good to know others have done similar with classroom hatching projects.

    Anyone setting eggs May 1st?

Came into school this morning and one had hatched! Others had pipped but no progress all day. Came back to school tonight and another has hatched. Guess they just want privacy. Will be back in the morning. I was going to take the bator home for the weekend but don't dare move it with babies...

    Anyone setting eggs May 1st?

We are in lock down as of today. As I was leaving school I stopped in to see how they were doing and it looked like one had (just barely) pipped! Can't wait to get back in tomorrow morning.
