They've grown a lot. The last chick is very large in size, along with the second chick, not as big, but still bigger than the rest. The last chick is aggressive in comparison to the others- to the extent of launching itself at my australorp x hen(that looks like a rooster),
There are feet size...
My "guesses" at the moment are. Pullet, roo, pullet, roo, Roo???unsure of Pookie (5th chook), pullet and roo. Some of them have developed wattles, so I'm pretty sure about 4 and 7 being roos. I'm also nearly certain 6 is a pullet.
Anyone have more ideas about Emu? Aka first chick
I will be getting bands this week hopefully. At the moment they have a drop of food colouring on their leg feathers.
I had a look at that chick in question and I'm now very on the fence.
Sustained I'm agreeing with you. Except the 5th I think will be a pullet. This ones quite small. It hasn't got a good head of hair, (bald) but it's quiet and small. I'm going to take some photos soon to start tracking body shape too
I just wanted to know if anyone has had a silkie with a bald head? It has a vaulted skull, and has been badly since birth. Will these feathers grow in?
Thanks, they are lovely little things. My children love them.
I figure if I keep recording process of growth, looking here and there for patterns, once they're of age- I may be able to track backwards and confirm any patterns I might find.
There seems to be a lot of conflicting advice in sexing...
Thankyou everyone. Yes we're excited about our newbies arrivals, my australorp eggs where given to me a week and a half after lay, so I'm not expecting a full hatch.
Our australorp hen is hilarious. She adores my husband and climbs into or onto his ute as soon as she has the chance. They're...
And now, yesterday's photo (4 weeks, 6 days)
I hope the photos aren't being "diluted" too much, I've got them on my phone quite well defined. But these are the chicks now.
Some chicks have quite slender and tall combs, some have thick short. A few have very pale combs (re: pet quality)...
