I would love some green eggs! My problem is that I only have 2 (out of 8) chickens who will go broody and only once a year and in the summer. I thought about getting an incubator, but the cost doesn't seem worth it when I only get about 2 new chicks a year

Maybe what I need is a silkie so I can hatch whenever I want. I have some EEs that always have their beards pecked off and I'm afraid any silkies I had would end up naked since they are pretty much all beard.

I'm looking for chicks to put under my broody who's chick didn't live past hatching. Preferably something that lays cool eggs (getting tired of light brown) but I can't find any at stores. Does anyone happen to have any near Mesa?

    Any guesses for his breed?

Someone found him as a chick and gave him to us because we have chickens but that leaves me with no clues to his breed. He was a light yellow chick.

Thanks everyone! I think I will try kale, clover, and alfalfa. What about bushes? Are there any native berries or something that are edible?

I have some welsummers that love eating ficus tree leaves, does anyone know if that is bad for them? Does anyone have good plants for their chickens to munch on that grows well here in the heat? I would love to have a chicken run garden.

    Surprise chick, what breed?

Sold to me by a fancy feed store that screwed up (supposed to be a wheaton ameraucana). any guesses on the breed and/or gender? Even Bresse chickens are possible from this place. It's about 4 weeks old but a little smaller than the 2 other chicks.[/IMG]
