I was concerned that towels in my brooder weren't ideal (it was very impromtu due to the arrival of 11 ducklings a whole week early) and was going to get hay tomorrow. Glad to hear I can keep towels instead!

    Moving A Duck Nest

Hi all, I just made a post asking about when to separate ducklings from their mom but I have a second issue as well. We have a very bad problem with crows and Ravens where I live and we have no tree coverage for our flock. The grown chickens and ducks take care of themselves well and I have...

    Separating Ducklings from Mom

Thank you! Right now they are inside (mom too) in a makeshift pen because we have no coverage on our two acre lot and crows/Ravens already attacked her nest. I'm sure Mom is going to need to go outside soon so we are prepared to do whatever we need to for the ducklings once she is separate.

    Separating Ducklings from Mom

Hi all, so I just walked outside and found one of my brooding ducks walking around with 11 ducklings We knew her nest was large and we also have another brooding duck with a large nest. Needless to say, we need to sell some of these ducklings. That being said, I've never taken babies away...

Something is wrong with my duckling

Final update: Mac died in my arms this morning... I'm heartbroken. I got up to let everyone out into the yard and Mac was fast asleep when I opened the cage. He didn't even wake up until I picked him up. I put him outside briefly and watched him stand but not walk... he seemed like he was just...

Something is wrong with my duckling

For anyone still following this thread: Mac is all better, but we've realized he's almost completely blind! Thankfully, Cheese and Pistachio act as his Seeing Eye Duck and Seeing Eye Chicken, so he always knows where to find his water, food, and friends :) Thank you to everyone for your help. I...

Something is wrong with my duckling

Mac and Cheese were swimming together this morning and Mac is still VERY vocal in the water but he' a little more stable. I think Cheese keeps him calm :) I've lowered his dose of B-complex to 2mL from 4mL because I'm not sure how long I need to give him so high of a dose. I suppose I'll keep...

Something is wrong with my duckling

here is the video of Mac swimming. He's doing much better now with walking :) he stayed outside most of the day today with Cheese (Pekin) and Pistachio (Americauna chicken), and when I came home from work I let them out of their nighttime enclosure... Mac was walking around! He's been waddling...

Something is wrong with my duckling

Yes, he is still being supervised in water and he will STAND but he won't walk by himself. He'll just stand there and cheep really loud until someone picks him up, pets him, or moves him where he wants to be. I can give him a little push to make him walk, which is how I know he's capable, but...

Something is wrong with my duckling

Still pretty much the same. He didn't feel as hot but I'm not sure if that's because the fever is going away, or because he had gone swimming and was wet. And, while he can balance okay now, he can pretty much only swim backwards and he won't walk even though if I give him a little push I can...

Something is wrong with my duckling

Hey all, I've appreciated the help thus far more than you know, but there is a new problem :( I'm pretty sure Mac has a fever. Overall, his condition is slightly better since yesterday, but his beak and feet are extremely hot and he's almost constantly making noise. I suspect he wants out of the...

Something is wrong with my duckling

He has gone swimming in our pond (under close supervision of course) and only needed a little help here and there to get going in the right direction. He bathed his head real good and since then his eye is looking better. Mac and Cheese have been reunited! Mac will still be spending the next...

Something is wrong with my duckling

Some much needed rest :) Mac has become quite attached. He cheeps like crazy unless someone is touching him.

Something is wrong with my duckling

His poops look normal, albeit a bit full of mealworms lol and it's funny you mention the cramp.... after looking at how much he's preening now that he is capable, I've been wondering if this whole time he's been trying to preen and getting a muscle cramp or spasm?
