At my wits end - noisy hen

4 birds. 8m by 4m approximately. And not only food for enrichment. That was desperation as a distraction at 5am. They have treat baskets to peck at. A dust bath, mirrors, a log and a different branch. I also give them grass cuttings to scratch at and rake up the hay (between changing) for them...

At my wits end - noisy hen

Honestly, I love them. We have children and they love them. Im just the only one who has to put up with the wake ups and the stress for the neighbours. Im definitely going to give it a go re-training them because rehoming is 100% last resort. I think Im just going a bit insane in the mornings x

Surely by retraining them I have to put up with the shouting to undo it. Which means it will get worse before it potentially gets better! I realised this morning that I may have to do that but I dont know if my sanity can take it. Thank you

At my wits end - noisy hen

I am awake again at 5am thanks to my very noisy light sussex hen. Our hens have been able to free range all day every day in the whole garden. Last month when we were sick of the poo, we got an extra run and keep the chickens in. They have dirt for dustbathing, shelter, treat basket and hay to...

Not laying yet, have I given layer feed too early!

I have 4 hens, 3 light sussex and one meant to be plymouth rock but she is black so some form of cross. The barred rock is 29 weeks and the light sussex are 26 weeks. I have started giving them layer feed 3 weeks ago in preparation for the black hen to start laying (meant to be 21-24 weeks)...

    Roo?

We have thought this Barred Plymouth Rock was a roo from fluffy because it had no defined spot on the back of the head. As its growing though, with another roo, it's comb is smaller and the feathers are developing quicker. What do people think? This is 3 weeks old. First two pics are the one...
