Thank you both. I don't know why I didn't think to just candle it. 🤦🏻♀️
Very large air sac in there, definitely no fully developed chick. There's dark areas, looks like it quit at some stage. Must've snuck past us during ongoing incubation candling... I decided to stop at day ten and not...
Thanks for the reply.
Google searches gave me the info, which of course could be wrong. I watched for movement, none. The articles said if it sinks, dud, - floats only the airsac up, dud - floats more to the side, maybe. Who knows how true it is though, hence looking for advice.
I'll go try...
Hi all,
Were hatching eggs for the 3rd time down in Melbourne, Aus. We set 14 in our Brinsea, eliminated 2 during candling - one infertile and one quitter. The first chick hatched at noon on day 20. 5 hours later we finally had more, then more overnight. They all hatched over the next 24 hours...
A final update about Velma! She's now laying her first eggs. She started about two weeks ago and lays a lovely soft blue-green. She's 100% recovered and isn't the bottom of the flock anymore, but she is a little bit smaller than the other girls. She's full of personality... very sassy and...
It's a bit early to tell, but here's my guesses based on where we are at with them:
(Image numbers)
1. Possible pullet
2. Likely pullet based on feather colouring/pattern
5. Two barred rocks, likely Cockerels
7. Grey with very pink comb, most likely a boy
Last image, white with black, could be a...
I've hatched a couple batches of mixed birds for olive and other colour eggs. I had two that looked just like this one. Both were boys and this one appears to be a boy too.
Can you please confirm... This is a Marans cross at just past 12 weeks of age. Recently started reddening in the face, no waddles yet that I see.. Slightly long saddle feathers. A few pointy hackles.
*With a bit of research, I sorted my other issue I think. 😂 Feeling more certain again Rogue...
Thank you. Unfortunately, one of my Australorp hens appears to have the same crop issue Daphne did. I noticed it was still large this am and it was soft and a bit squishy. I had given those chooks a little of the mixture with tuna cause they were being so nosey... so I think no more tuna for my...
Thank you so much! I'm happy to report that Daphne is looking like a completely normal chook again! Crisis averted. Hubby says one of them might have eaten a slug, so maybe that was it, but... I decided not to give tuna again too, just in case. Here's a bunch of the flock demolishing scrambled...
Just a quick update to say, thanks to your help, I think Velma is going to make a full recovery into a functional chook! She's at about 95% these days. Head bob is almost completely gone, often not noticeable at all. She still stumbles a little when she walks. She's growing, active and looking...
Thank you for asking. Her crop was mostly empty this am. I forgot to take the food up last night and given the grittiness of the tiny contents I think she'd just eaten a little brekky.
I gave her some more oil and a massage again just in case, as well as a dose of Canesten and let her back out...
The rest are as it was quite empty this am. Unless they spilled it all....
I'm not watching her, so I can't be 100% sure. I did wonder about syringing her some, but breaking the dose rate down from 5g per 4 liters to tiny amount per ml was impossible for my poor maths ability. 😂
So, I decided to just start the Amprolium yesterday, gave them all fresh water with the dose, then again this am.
Daphne still had a squishy crop this am, bigger than yesterday, and she looks more unwell unfortunately. I had given her food yesterday until lock up at 8pm. Left water with amp...
