First egg came Friday, and whichever girl it was laid another yesterday. They're pretty small eggs, but hopefully as she matures the eggs will get bigger. Now waiting for the others to start laying!
Oh wow, I don't think Mini is that bad but that certainly is entertaining. Lol. At least Tiny was friendly during the day. Mini yells at me at all hours; as soon as she catches sight of me I can hear her squawking from across the barn yard. She's a loudmouth grump. Haha.
Hi,
Mini, who I've talked about in past posts, is one of the toughest chickens I have despite her size, but she's been gearing some more of that aggression toward me lately.
None of the girls have started laying yet, but we can tell it's going to be really soon. They've been noisy...
Well it must either have been a cramp from sitting in her dust bath for so long or she might be getting ready to lay. She's been fine ever since. All of the chickens' combs and wattles are starting to develop pretty nicely all of sudden, though. I thought they they wouldn't lay for a least 5...
Today I noticed one of the chickens digging herself quite a hole for a dust bath. Even after I let the others out of the pen to wander around, she stayed in fluffing dust all over and then just sitting. She didn't seem keen on leaving it, though she did stand up for a bit when I came in to see...
Mine are California Whites (presumably, since our order was messed up). They're losing and gaining new spots all the time.
And wow! Sounds like a complicated bedtime routine! The way you described it reminds me of those puzzle book riddles.
One up top.
One swinging away on the cord.
And the other four where they're supposed to be.
Silly gooses. Er... chickens. This was the first I'd seen one go up next to that vent, but Mini has been doing her balancing act on the cord for the last few nights. Always the show-off...
Or at least she's trying to be. I haven't noticed a distinct pecking order in my chicks and they're close to two months old, now, but the smallest, Mini, is by far one of the most aggressive. She steals food from the others, she's the first to fly up on tall objects, and anytime I see a lot of...
I first noticed this when I let one of my cats in the run for the second time while the chicks were out. I let her wander on her own this time, and I think she was more afraid of the chicks than vice-versa. They ran up to look at her every time her back was turned. Otherwise they seemed to get...
Thank you, I think understand better now. Indeed it is dissapointing to not be able to peg a definite name to them, but I love them just the same. I definitely get the dog reference... Those overpriced "designer" breeds are a laugh...
So for times sake, rather than calling them my "random...
