i was NOT thinking when i’d reserved these chicks.. i’d just learned that they’re dun chocolate rather than sex-linked chocolate. they’re a mix of chocolate, mauve, and chocolate splash. WHICH, i’m okay with. i just need to adjust my plans a bit. i’d planned on using them for more than just...
thank you! i don’t show, this is moreso a hobby for me. however the area i live in is very FFA/agriculture-centered and the colors offered by quality breeders within 1-2 hours radius are pretty limited (buff, white.) so i’d like to be able to offer show-quality birds. i know that’ll take awhile...
i’m new-ish to Silkies and would like to breed towards SOP. i’ve read and read and read, but haven’t comprehended much - i’m a hands-on/picture type learner. while i do notice some faults in my birds, im curious as to what good & bad others see in them, so i can apply it to future birds, in...
is it possible to produce chocolate paints and chocolate paints in one pen? in my mind, it makes sense to have a chocolate paint roo over chocolate paint, black paint, chocolate, black, and dominant white hens BUT i’m not super familiar with the genetics here. what will/will not work?
if the roo was paint and the hen was chocolate, would it make any difference? i’m not super familiar on paint genetics and am trying to figure out whether i could produce chocolate paints and black paints in one pen.
what size baskets did you use? i’ll be hatching some chicks that are all black - some split to mottled, some split to lav, etc and have been nervous about them getting tangled. seeing how many eggs you have in the basket and knowing the size would probably help me more than looking at a basket...
i’m curious as to how your hatch went? i see that was posted in the month of Feb. i’m in WI and have eggs coming in Feb from Oregon, so similar distance/weather and now i’m second guessing whether i should have waited.
say i had a chocolate mottled roo. if i put chocolate mottled AND black mottled hens with him, would i get chocolate and black mottled chicks (split to chocolate)?
and for solid chocolate and black chicks, they should be in a separate pen, correct? i read that a bird even carrying 1 mottling...
this is a loaded question!
i have paint, mottled, and splash on the way in chocolate and black (plus some mauve.)
what is the best path to take to keep these colors going? i’m doing research, but id appreciate if someone can simplify it a bit. thank you!
hi all!
so i’m hatching 5 doz+ Silkie eggs 🤞🏽 (color listed below.) while i’ll have pure breeding pens in which i will focus on SOP, i’m wondering what fun colors i could get from crossing any of the following, other than different colored barred/cuckoo/mottled? thanks!

-Black Mottled...
