    Finally got some peas-YEAH

I finally was able to get some peas- yeah!!! A nice woman became overwhelmed as her two india blues turned into 20 peafowl over a few years. She needed to downsize some as her neighbors were complaining. My question is how long do I need to keep them locked up before I can try free ranging them...

    best pea variety for newbie

I want to start with a pair or trio of peafowl. I have read that India blues are the easiest to tame. I love the look of the greens but what I have read says they are much wilder than the blues. What about the hybrids? I know that Indian blues are the easiest to find but are the other varieties...

Free Ranging with other game birds

Thanks for all the info. We are lucky in that our 20 acres are in the middle of another's 140 acres so we don't have any close neighbors. Our turkeys did wander over to our neighbor's place when they were building their house and the construction crew thought they were great. The turkeys and...

I Iive on 20 acres in N. CA and really want some peacocks. I have free range turkeys and guineas that I LOVE and was hoping I could eventually let some peafowl range with them. My birds are all fairly tame....they follow me everywhere and some of the turkeys and guineas I can pet and hold. If I...

    Stargazing 3.5 week old chick

I have a 3.5 week old bantam polish chick in good body condition that started stargazing last night. It was healthy from hatch and actually the largest of the chicks. I hand fed it this morning. Is it worth trying to save it? Will it get over it or should I just put it out of its misery? I have...

    Heat stress

Hi, I live in N.Ca near Sacramento and had a very hot weekend last week of close to 110 degrees. I lost 6 chickens and wondered what everyone does for very hot days. They have plenty of shade and water. They also had access to tubs of water to soak their feet in to cool down. This worked last...

Leaviing tom in with sitting hens

I have 2 hens locked in a pen with a tom. They are both sitting on eggs. Can I leave the tom in with them when the poults hatch or do I need to move him? I usually incubate turkey eggs but these 2 hens are so broody I decided to let them sit.
