Dog strikes again. It is a horrible rainy day and usually the chooks are not out but they went out today (one hen and one rooster other hen is in brooding) and the dog got them when she broke through the shed door. Hen is a goner but the rooster was smart and played dead. He has a plucked arse...
Thanks I will try that. If this one doesn't come to anything I will stop lifting some eggs and let her brood a clutch. Just with two laying I'm not sure when to stop collecting
I have a 4 year old hen who never brooded before. She started about two months ago now, and has been sitting. At the start a few eggs got broke in the nest box that the other hen lays in too, so we made another box and she now has one egg in it. There is never any more in it, so we assume she is...
Unfortunately three of our hens passed on, one of a heart attack we think from being spooked and then two just went missing never to be seen again. So my b&w suzzex was lonely and i totally love her so i got another sussex!
Meet Delilah!
Found her this morning.
After telling my dad about 50 times NOT to let the dog out cause i knew she had to be in the trees/pen...he goes and lets her out cause he thought he knew best. As usual he was ****ing wrong.
RIP little chicken, you survived the night and got killed by the ignorance...
My poor bullied hen has gone missing. They were in the pen so dunno how she got out, the fences are high! The other three came in okay, but poor Gina is gone. It's dark now so no mission of getting her back.
I feel awful :(
Shes the leader of the flock and her little friend sleeps on top of the large dog crate she is in (in the same shed as the other three) but i think she will always be a bully. She might have to go to a new home.
I still don't understand though, when you say ps do you mean they literally went into the post office and said "heres some chickens, post them first class to balbalbla"?? Is that legal??
Ohhh, this is strange. I usually name everything but i didn't even think about naming the coop! Its in my stable block thats called Oyster block, so Oyster coop?
I agree but imprinting definitely has a part to play. I know a lot of collies who herd birds just because they HAVE to. Unrelated though, i worked with a german wireharid pointer a few years ago in the kennels. oh my lord. I had to give up on it, it was just totally untrainable and a total...
Labs are hunting dogs and love nothing more that to bring a bird to you, rotties are herding/guard dogs so if you got it you would have a dog that would herd the birds possibly kill them but then guard them! Rotties should be okay but i personally wouldn't have a lab if they are free running...
Postal service as in they were mailed? Would you not have to have a courier service for live animals?
I personally don't agree with posting animals, but that's me.
