    Horsemom that looks like just the yolk , an undeveloped egg? Unless she is lethargic, going off feed, has a warm spongy abdomen I wouldn't think it was peritonitis. I am in no way an expert and maybe someone on this forum would have a better idea. How old are your hens? Mine are only two yrs...

    I just lost my beautiful "Amelia" Barred Rock to this it was despairing for me to watch her suffer. No one knew anything about it, had a necropsy done and found out it was egg peritonitis.     yes I have DE and they free range over the farm and dust themselves in sand .

    It's not under her vent it's along her side under her wing and then I noticed another chicken has on her underside? Could they be stressed out a few of them are molting at the same time as well:(

    thanks I did read that, but she is back to being with the flock now. My concern was while she was broody she made a couple of the other hens find new laying areas can I retrain them to go back to laying in their coop?

    I read feeding them avocados was toxic to them...you might want to check that our before you continue to feed them that:)
