    Bobcat attack, please help!

I would look for puncture wound , if there was blood there’s a wound and a puncture will close up but harbor bacteria from the tooth or nail that made it and she’ll get a terrible infection. I’d use Vetrycin poultry spray.

    Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

I just turned 70 , it’s even hard for me to sit on the edge of my raised bed and twist and turn to plant and weed . That being said : My first mistake was making the frame too wide, I can no longer reach the middle section and it’s a burden to try to keep it weeded. Second mistake was not...

Should I warn neighbor that dog might get shot?

I’d use a paint ball gun !!! Or at least a plastic pellet gun . Both hurt , make noise and I don’t believe are lethal.

May I have opinions on these Tractor Supply coops?

I purchased a TSC coop . It was set up inside the barn for the following reasons - it is not predator proof . It will be an investment to make it so. - the material is very poor quality. Splits when screws are put in , doors wanted to warp even tho it was never in the weather - I had.6 Cochins...

Great Pyrenees - to buy or not to buy?

Hello! I’m in western upstate New York. I live in country also with coyotes , fox, Fischer, bear, and the usual air predators - hawks, osprey , eagles. I’m only a few miles from lake. I have Giats, sheep, horses, geese, ducks, and chickens. I also have 2 dogs , older lab and a shep/border...

Feeding with mealworms as the only protein source

I’m thinking chickens in previous years were rotated out of the flock faster. Hens weren’t kept , once they began to slow down in laying , they became dinner. I feel we are currently having our chickens in backyards as egg layers but also as pets and eating them is not an option . Granted their...

Newbie getting ready for winter - Insulating? Closing down Windows?

One suggestion : I used a tarp instead of poop board . I used cup hooks on the front of the perch board and on the wall behind the hens . I draped it to catch the poops . It’s easily removed , cleaned and rehung. It also works as a draft break on the wall for roosting hens . You can fold the...

    Artificial lights shining in coop

You could put a window awning on outside of the coop. Easy to make from canvas and curtain frame. If the awning doesn’t cut all light you can put long trailers across. They’ll move in breeze, allow and block light like branches would

Review by 'Anonymous' in article 'Chicken Behavior The Ignorant Gal's Guide To Things No Sane Person Would Tell You About Chickens'

I enjoyed her wit and laughed at her chickens doing things mine have done and freaked me out with. We have ospreys , I scream for my dog and the hens and geese run for me while I’m screaming . My neighbors think I drink ! My little Roo has no feet only stub legs from being an Amish chick and...

    cayuga question

I have cayuga and pekin . The Cayuga drakes will get the curled feather around 4-6mos. I can’t tell you about offspring and was wondering myself. My pekin is mating daily with the Cayugas but the eggs aren’t fertile !!! Not one! In an earlier thread it was said that the ducklings would be...

Is Corid a one time TX? What to do AFTER the 5 days????

I also read that supplementing the birds while using Corid may stop the action of starving the cocci. I also read that after the 5 days , reduce the dosage from 2 tsp to 1/2 teaspoon per gal of water for 7 days. I’m treating now at day 5 . I’m also hand feeding 2 of the weaker hens with...

Heart breaking day on the farm...

I don’t believe you can legally end his life . You maybe able to go to court and be reimbursed for your hens and ducks and may also receive compensation for pain/suffering. None of that takes away the loss of your babies. I’m so sorry , heartfelt sorry , for your loss. If it were me I’d get a...

Is there a breed that you’ve had that you would absolutely not have again?

I was given 10 Ayam Cremanti chicks as a Bday gift a year ago. I found them to be really bigigity and then in the late summer they started dropping like flies. I had beautiful Roos and hens good one day dead or dying the next . Ended up with 2 hens out of 10. And they are goofy. They fly to top...
