Thank you for posting this. I'm going to try this with mine. We just added two new pullets to the hand-raised one we had left (had to give the two other hand-raised cockerels away, sadly). But, the two new ones are very skittish and fearful so I was wondering how to get them to warm up to us.
Thank you. I would love to get more but this is all we can manage at this time. At least they are managing together. I can't wait for them all to free range together. I feel bad for Ginger, who is the only one who feels comfortable doing so. So she is off by herself most of the day.
I am totally new to all this and have since had to give away two of my hand-raised chicks because they ended up being roos, leaving me with one pullet (Speckled Sussex). I picked up two 12 week olds (a Buff Brahma and a Salmon Faverolle). I guess I am wondering if they will ever all become as...
Here is a pic of Omelet and “Miss C”. I knew Omelet (in back) was a roo a while ago. They are about 9 weeks now. But was really hoping Miss C wasn’t Mister C. I’m going to have to get rid of both of them and introduce two new pullets to our 3rd chicken (a speckled Sussex pullet). I’m just not...
I called the store that these eggs originated from and they told me it was from a mixed breeding.. so I'm grasping at straws and hoping that maybe the early red comb is a result of that. Sadly I do think this is a cockerel and not wanting to face the fact that we will have to give away.
Any chance at all it's a hen with a big comb?! I'm just going to be so sad to have to give it away if it's a roo. :-(. I'm also worried that if both the GLW's are cockerels, then we will need to get another pullet for our SS.
This is Omelet. We got her/him from our son's 2nd grade class (they hatched chicks from eggs) and we took two home to raise (along with a Speckled Sussex that we purchased after taking the other two home). I am afraid this one is a Roo. But, because I am so new to this chicken thing, I have...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Very new. This is my first time owning chickens. I have always been a little afraid of them so I'm learning lots. We got our chicks about 5 weeks ago after my son's 2nd grade class hatched them from eggs.
(2) How many chickens...
