    Decoding egg problems

Yes I have a round feeder that hangs and I normally stick with that, only occasionally I will also scatter some feed on the grass. Usually the hens, the red ones will eat first (the hen I'm keeping an eye on is red) but this time she didn't go right away.

    Decoding egg problems

Probably 3 months. The only disturbance there has been was adding a new hen to the flock. (She is small though compared to the rest of the hens) The coop doesn't smell like ammonia. Thanks for the article I've read it many times. Are there any other things I can do though? Like inside the coop...

    Decoding egg problems

Hello everyone. This morning when I let my chickens out from the coop, I noticed that one of the chickens layed an extremely soft egg and because of it, the egg had popped inside the coop. Then a few minutes after I let them out, there was one hen by my door steps, I thought it was strange that...

Chickens can get respiratory infections in the cold too? I live in the suburbs of Chicago and the weather has been on the chilly side- I haven't done a full winterization yet but I have covered up drafts from the coop. What other preventative can I take from respiratory infections, jusy to be on...

Chicken coop and run flooring/bedding material

So the deep litter method needs flooring inside the coop and not wood? My chicken coop is all wood, why can't it? What would happen?

    Rusty Rooster

Hello, my flock consist of 12 hens and 1 rooster. My young rooster started crowing about 3 weeks ago now- the first few attempts were funny, but after he got the hang of it- his crows were smooth and strong. Recently he started crowing very oddly, not smooth or strong. When he crows it sounds...

Comment by 'Eronica' in article 'Common egg quality problems'

I have 1 chicken, who I got already grown and she started laying eggs already after 2 weeks I got her. The first 4 eggs she had layed were all normal, then she started laying calcium deposited eggs, but not heavily like the picture, just a few small spots around the egg. So what can I do to stop...

Amazing! You must be great with handy work :thumbsup . Here on the other side, I'm not too well with it and neither is my husband, he claims in order to get things done quick and easily is having the right equipment/tools. I'm inspired by your own design :D hopefully we can do something similar...

That looks beautiful! I really like that you put your own design into it as well, the colors coordinate well with each other too :D I really like that you added your own roofing idea instead of the wood type. Does your roof provide a more 'cooling' shade to your chickens? Right now I have been...
