Can I ask if Winnie made it? Trying to make some decisions on our chicken whose still the size of a 2 week old chick (but growing now a week ago she was still the size of 1 week old) with a splayed leg at 5 weeks. She seems to have a will to live and happier then before and does ok dispite being...
So one of our silkies wasn't growing, and we discovered she was having trouble walking, so we've hobbled her legs with vet tape (about 2 weeks ago) and she seems to be doing a lot better...she's eating and drinking...and although she's still the size of a 3 week old chick instead of 5 week old...
So when you do need to cull the males (to eat and to keep ratios) do you way till 18 weeks to tell? Or how in the world...
I have 8 Easter Eggers that are almost 9 weeks old and plan was to freezer camp the males at 12 weeks. 2 are most definitely male, one is crowing... but 4 others all look...

My cochin was doing the same thing, we found out (quite by accident and only after the fact) that another chicken was bullying her but only when we were not watching. Once the bully got injured and didnt survive the cochin stopped laying "roost eggs" that were thin or shellless and now are fine...
They seem totally fine! Thanks! Am (sadly) disposing eggs the next couple days just to be sure but at least thats the worst thats seem to come of it. Clearly time to rethink wasp control.
They seem ok this morning. Will keep a close eye on them today. I did find a couple dead wasps in thier run on the ground last night so it seems like they may have not been so eager to gooble them up so hopefully they smelled or tasted something funny and didnt actually eat much of the wasps...
So my 9 year old was being a great farm kid and was feeding the chickens some yummy bugs... unfortunately he had picked up those "bugs" wasps...from a nest in another part of the yard that my husband had sprayed the night before....
Anything i can do to mitigate effects, i dont know how many...
My 11 month old SL Wyandotte had a weird growth growing from right beneath her face that seemed to come out of nowhere (out the side covered in feathers, was not there a week ago), and we isolated her overnight and spent the day today cleaning and sanitizing the coop, the internet seems like...
Internet has told me cochins will lay through the winter...not the best layers ever but I'm looking forward to having a few eggs a week in the winter rather than none!
So we have friends who are Turkey farmers (commercial farmers) and they lost half thier flock last year because the turkeys didnt like the flavor of food they got and stopped eating (supplier messed up not our friends experiment)...apparently turkeys can be extremely picky and rather starve than...
Thanks! This is a double post cant figure out a way to delete it? Chick has already been washed as it was poop and looks good (other than missing some feathers).
They have a 10×7ftcoop with about a 12x12ft enclosed run plus they have outside time in a less protected about 6-700sqft run daily...lots of room. Hubby thinks she was sleeping under the roosts as it mostly happened overnight. Shes had a bath now and has been locked in the coop while she drys as...
