    Limping Duck

Thanks! It’s just him and our other male, and I’ve been keeping them relatively low key so he doesn’t exacerbate it more.

    Limping Duck

You’re the second person today to say that ducks are clumsy. Guess he takes after his ma! I’ve been checking on him often throughout today and yesterday, doesn’t seem better, but not worse either. Hoping it’s a slight sprain.

    Limping Duck

No swelling, I’ve been keeping an eye on each leg and aside from the warmth in the left leg there isn’t anything visually wrong.

    Limping Duck

One of my boys has a lame leg, I just noticed him favoring it yesterday. There doesn’t seem to be any sign of bumble foot or injury on the affected foot. The foot and leg itself is hot to the touch. Aside from limping around he is himself; eating, drinking, preening and raising hell. While...

    Introducing drakes to one another

Here they are, Fred is the Cayuga and Barney is the Rouen. No grabbing at all today - progress!

    Introducing drakes to one another

I'm not 100% certain of anything yet but it may be a case where I'll only let them out together when someone is around and when they are alone, separate them enough so they can't get at eachother but can still keep each other company. I talked with a lady who went through a similar sitatuaion...

    Introducing drakes to one another

Thanks. I'm not overly experienced with ducks for sure but I've learned a lot from here and other odd websites, therefore I appreciate any input.

    Introducing drakes to one another

I guess time will tell. It was either get another male for Fred or let one of my family members take him and put him in with a pair of broody geese...and I knew exactly how that would go down. They would only be outside (and eventually together) when someone was around anyway, we don't trust...

    Introducing drakes to one another

Thanks! Barney is our new guys name (: We have already come miles ahead of yesterday too! No more grabbing through the fence and they are dabbling in the grass right next to each other. I noticed when Fred wanders off, Barney will stand to attention and attempt to follow him and quack like...

    Introducing drakes to one another

I figured time was probably the best procedure. Unfortunately the timing of everything kind of sucked, we lost our female, couldn't find another male for he longest time and now Fred's all testorone and dominance like you mentioned :/ We are actually going to put chicken wire around the...

    Introducing drakes to one another

After much searching we finally found my drake a friend after his mate passed. Fred is a 4 year old Cayuga, his mate was a black Swedish of the same age. His new drake friend is a 3-4 month old Rouen who is actually close in size. I've had Fred since he was a few months old but he's never...

    Worming a duck

That makes sense. I'm going to call my regular vet tomorrow and check about a fecal sample. They'll probably think I'm crazy! He's been acting fine other than adjusting to losing his mate so I'm probably just being paranoid but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try. Thanks for the link! I'm not...

    Worming a duck

After doing a serious amount of research since my female duck passed I've come to the possibility that it would have been due to worms. I'm still not 100% - as not all of her symptoms matched but since I still have my male and he's going to get a buddy sometime this week I want to be safe. My...
