I have been letting the Silkie pullet and the most submissive cockerel out with the older birds during the day and keeping the others in their own run for now. I have a feeling it will be a long process. The older birds do not seem to bother with them.
My children wanted the silkies and Polish so it is going to be hard for me to get rid of them because the kids are attached. The Wynadotte and Brahma were purchased because TSC has a 4 chick minimum and I was gambling that they would be pullets. I am not too attached to them. They will be pretty...
So I started with chickens last year. I have 11 hens (brahmas, ISA brown, and easter eggers) and 1 brahma roo. They have a coop that is just big enough for them and free range during the day. This March, I bought 3 polish, 2 silkie, 1 brahma, and 1 wynadotte chick. I had planned on making a...
I have several light Brahma hens and a roo from TSC. I am wondering if it is possible to breed these birds and get quality chicks? I would probably only show them at our local fair. Or will these bird's descendants always be hatchery quality? I am interested in getting into breeding a specific...
The only other chick I bought this year is another Silkie. It is way smaller than the one in the photo. I think it’s a girl. I’m not sure what I will do with her if the others are all boys. I guess I may move her in with my larger hens
Yes that’s all that was available this year. I plan on moving the Wyandotte and Brahma to my other flock. I am wondering how the roosters will get along with each other.
I am starting to think all the chicks I bought this year are male. Three are polish. One is a light Brahma and the other is a gold laced Wyandotte. Is there any hope that I have a hen?
