Definitely not fencing out any birds! And none of prey to worry about. We sometimes have loose dogs in the neighborhood and keeping them out is item one. I'll definitely pass along the endorsement of these to the DH though. Maybe it will make my birthday list.
Thank you! I'm definitely a fan from afar with this feeder. Having just gotten into chickens against my partner's better judgment, I'm finding I need to spread out my purchases and really prioritize. Priority One is securing the perimeter, but since I loathe the dove swarms so much, this is...
Oh thanks for the thought. I know, no one wants roosters. :hit I just gotta do what I can to give him his best shot. He's certainly having a good run living his best life up to this point. Hey, if your rule flouting neighbor wants to extend her bachelor flock in an extremely unnecessarily...
Aloha kakou!
This boy is looking for a home. Any takers? Hatched July 31. FYI Makani Kai still accepts chickens on board, $30/bird, she didn't mention a particular limit. Not as cargo or anything, but great option if you or a friend island hops.
So I'm brand new at this, so my input is worthless  but this is something I've given thought to regarding my own pullets and here's where my thoughts have led me:
I'm not doing this for money, which is good, because I would never make any. So, my focus should be on long-term health and...
Good to know!!! I wanted to get video of it, but I really haven't seen it since. Pretty disturbing to be new to chickens and have a bird falling and rolling over multiple times when you set her down. Every day when I look out and still have 12 healthy birds, I kinda can't believe it. :yesss::lau
I'm glad this thread is up right now. This has been my exact question since returning from a weekend away. As I'm easing into my chicken keeping I'm finding I want to be able to free feed and free range my birds, but the doves here are just out of control and it sounds like more than one could...
For posterity: everyone seems fine! I haven't seen this behavior since and haven't seen anything of concern from any of my birds. So if you are new to chickens and have seen your chick flopping over and limping after a dust bath and google brought you here, it might, like mine, just be an odd...
Thanks so much. That's good to hear. :yesss:Basically all google results lead to Marek's and some mention of dust bathing chickens acting weird, but nothing about limping after. And, yes, I will definitely be ready to get video. When it happened yesterday I thought maybe it was some kind of...
I'm new to chickens and one of my 7wk old Appenzeller Spitzhaubens has twice taken a very long dirt bath/ hang out session in a large potted plant. She seems happy and content while doing this, but both times I had gotten all the other birds back in the coop and ended up picking her up because...
Aloha! I'm super new and just got a bunch of chicks in. I'm splitting my order with a friend and am re-homing the blue-laced red Wyandottes, so I want to be as honest about what I have as possible. I hope this is the right place to ask, but I'm noticing online quite a bit of variability in the...
