    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

I'm not trying to insult/attack you, I just wanted to point out that most puppies are well socialized, or at the very least they claim them to be well socialized: a responsible breeder will only have one, maybe two breeds that they breed, in addition to what has already been said :). Just...

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

@DLHOCNT, something that the first breeder you'd posted had said made me think. Yesterday, I'd been playing one of my favorite games: find the irresponsible breeder. I'd been using a labradoodle breeder because it's doesn't get any easier to find an irresponsible breeder than with doodles. While...

If you thought about getting a pet, adopt from a local shelter! Shelter Pets need you!!!!!! Please Help!!!!!

Puppies come with there own challenges, but overall they're usually the better choice in the long run! Just one more thing-know your breed. Whether it's your mix of breeds, or your single bred, make sure you know what you're getting into. And do your research-responsible breeders are much harder...

x2, I was just saying that for a puppy, a couple issues would be the same. Yes, I think that especially for first time dog owners, getting a puppy they have spend time with (from a breeder or shelter) is the best decision-a dog with bad training or issues is never the a good choice for anybody...

Agreed-mostly. I think breeders get a bad rap, and that there are many responsible breeders-however (I do realize you speak from experience, just sharing my opinion), my aunt fosters a ton. She has a mix herself, who's now 15 and just starting to lose her eyesight and hearing. None of her...

If you thought about getting a pet, adopt from a local shelter! Shelter Pets need you!!!!!! Please Help!!!!!

These are all valid points! I agree that you're probably in a better position to get a purebred than a mix right now-just wanted to add my two cents. Most puppies will have separation anxiety-they're puppies, and they've never been without mom before: that doesn't have to do with breeding. Same...

If you thought about getting a pet, adopt from a local shelter! Shelter Pets need you!!!!!! Please Help!!!!!

I agree-most of the time. Sometimes you'll fall totally in love with one breed, and I think that's okay. And sometimes you need a dog bred for a job-I think that's okay too. But for all those people who get doodles because they're 'trending', or because they think mutts are ugly, just wow. Most...

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

Oh, that's an awesome breeder. This is the breeder I've been stalking: they're the most responsible one I can find that's anywhere near me. http://www.harmonyhillaussies.com/ They have two litters on the floor at the moment, which is usually a big no no for me, but one is co-bred so I'm letting...

    Chickentrain's Dog Q&A

Family friends of mine have one-he's super friendly and adorable, but also really high maintenance. Some other friends of ours were getting one, and there was an extra puppy in the litter, so they got one. They love him to pieces, but clearly didn't research the breed: they've done little to no...

IKR! I linked one of her articles just before. I also have read her posts on a corgi website-she is probably the reason I stopped hating breeders.

give away free day old chicks - blue laced red wyandotte

Also- What gender? Straight run, cockerels, or pullets? I'm sorely tempted, but I'm trying to remind myself I don't have the space.

Yup, thanks for sharing! Sorry, rereading my last post I sound a little mean and snobby. Didn't mean for it to come off that way :)

How often do you clean the brooder?

I spot cleaned mine every two or so days, daily when they got older. Of course, when they spilled there water I ended up cleaning it out ever couple hours XD! We've since gotten a nipple style waterer. I think in the entire six or so weeks they were inside, we only completely cleaned it out two...

Not sure if this fits in here, just stumbled upon: »Big brood of cicadas set to emerge from soil for first time since 2004« 🦗

I think this is the only place in the entire world where people get excited about an oncoming plague of cicadas! This year, though, I'm here for it! As are the chickens. They can't wait. These are the golden winged ones or something, right?
