At day 14 look for a dark blob that fills half the egg. It doesn't necessarily have to move. A rotting egg at 14 days looks murky with hard-to-see contents. Make sure you're using a quality egg candler before you cull any eggs, though.
Hi all you chicken lovers!! Calling all Welsummer owners to brag on all your special chooks. From proud roosters to sassy hens and cute chicks, or maybe just a mix of all three. Hey, they're a great breed :D
Can't wait to see what you've all got ;)

Garlic is good for antibiotics. You could either crush a clove to mix in his water or use fresh garlic juice/oil. A high chance he'll make it :) As for the calcium, crushed egg shells would do great just be sure you really crush them so they're easy to swallow for a roo with an injured beak.
Ameraucanas, Buff Orpingtons and Wyandottes, my favorite breeds. Silver Laced Wyandottes (SLW) would be a pretty addition to your flock. Buff orpingtons are devoted moms and docile, friendly softies. Ameraucanas are my all-time favorite. They're beautifully colored with cute muffs and pea combs...
wow sounds like you have a situation.
I'm sorry you must be pretty frustrated. the only predater I know of who is able to squeeze through a 2 inch space would be a weasle, but I never heard of one who eats like that... Weasles eat only choice parts of a bird, I thought. Getting something like...
I don't have a clue. Check around the barn for a hole something may have dug. It may be a 'possum, keep in mind that though they are diligent and hard to scare off they are pretty easy to prevent. Any possum attack I've had the dumb critter eats the whole thing.
To give a tip to the person who originally started this thread, I would build a few extra nest boxes. True you can't stop the "egg song", but you can decrease it by a large margin.
I say time will heal it. You'd be surprised how much roosters can go through. Put him in a safe place away from the other birds and most definitely away from the roo who did this to him. Plenty of food and water.
Does he have trouble eating or drinking? lots of TLC and this roo will love you...
