Acting normal has never been something she did. She had wry neck as a chick and now has permanent neurological problems that make her act very differently from other chickens. It’s difficult to decipher between ‘normal’ *her* behaviour and something off.
She lays eggs inconsistently but she...
I am posting too much here goodness…
My disabled silkie squirts a clear liquid from her vent whenever she preens herself back there. Is this normal or is there something else possibly going on? There’s no smell to it or her either.
The only farm store around me carries all their products and has since replaced their vitamins and electrolytes with their product as far as I see. As I live in Canada, finding any sort of other supplement that aren’t entirely natural is next to impossible unfortunately. 🥹
Is Chick N’ Swell worth buying? I’m loving the way they have products for specific things and all in one place, but I’m not sure if it’s worth the buy or not? Anyone know any further information or have any experience with it?
The chick cannot put the leg down to begin with, as in it won’t stretch out. It keeps it up and hops around. How far it stretches in the images is as far out as it will go, so not entirely certain how I can wrap the legs without completely crippling it or preventing it from stretching either leg...
This lil guy hatched a couple days ago with the issue. I want to assume tendon issue, but I’ve never dealt with this before.
Can’t stretch the leg out fully and the hock is swollen.
Interesting! Turkeys definitely seem more casual and calm in comparison.
As for my roosters, the one with my hens is quite the gentleman I suppose. Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky enough. Just not a fan of having to deal with my hens getting hurt over aggressive mounting.
Roosters are also given permission, if the rooster is a good rooster and isn’t aggressive towards the ladies. They should always await the hen to crouch for them prior to mounting and not force themselves if she refuses—at least, that’s the expectations for my flock’s roo. Maybe I’m a little...
This isn’t a serious question but one out of curiosity on behalf of my partner.
Do tom turkeys treat hens like a rooster would? Such as with something the equivalent of tidbitting? Or are toms just in it for the fun season?
She’s still in her kiddie pool at nights and on rainy or windy days, but gets outside time for sun and stuff! She still struggles a bit with coordination but otherwise is doing great! Lays eggs near daily.
Correction: all native birds are protected, with the exception of birds of prey, ravens and crows, and blackbirds such as grackles and a couple other species I can’t recall correctly. And of course there are game birds.
I’m talking about non-native species that are bred specifically for captivity.
I have a hen that had wry neck in the beginning of February, and now has neurological problems. Which— no issue, now she gets pampered!
She’s so sassy and acts so spoiled, too! She was raised indoors essentially so she seems to understand what we say a lot more than we give credit for...
Alright, if we’re considering dogs and chickens as people, I’d put it into this perspective…
If a person came over and started attacking my children, they’d probably get shot, or seriously injured. And if you want to put it into their perspective, if a person trespassed on my property and...
