Unfortunately not home to see what it was, went ahead and moved injured ones inside, moving the other two that didn’t get hurt inside as well, gonna let mom go and keep babies inside
need opinion on separating mom and chicks :(, not sure what is going on, i could go ahead and put mom and 4 babies inside but worried she might poke them, should i separate the injured babies and the mom and her two okay and safe babies and place them all inside?
Came home 2 more injured, no way any cat could’ve gotten in there or reached through, went ahead and moved them inside. they all have some sort of scratch or cut on their neck, is it mom ??
yeah he also has little cuts and bruising as any chicken who got into a fight with another chicken would, the other two had blood on them but only small little peck marks, didn’t think they could be aggressive at a young age but again no adult chicken in there, no way a cat could’ve gotten to...
As for the older chick (no severe wounds, just bald and a little swollen), there’s little chance something might’ve gotten inside or reached inside since it is lined with double mesh and covered and the bottom is lined with bricks and etc, perhaps small animals but it’s highly unlikely, i have...
probably should’ve kept it one chicken per thread to avoid confusion but yes will be lining the cage for safety, usually i keep the front lined with multiples of these little panels but again i never expected something to reach in and this cage is only used for emergencies :hmm
and as for the other chick, im thinking it was the siblings but not entirely sure, have been cleaning and applying ointment, chick also has been separated from the rest.
unfortunately too iffy to put rat poison out as i have cats, haven’t seen many rats around since i have cats, i’ve never seen them reach through the cage but might’ve been it :(
Usually we keep biscuit and her babies in a big pen , since i’m not able to keep an eye on them all day for the time being we moved them to a more “secure”
(or so i thought) cage, which is out in the open with the free roaming chickens, this is the netting
!BLOOD!
cleaned the chicks head w iodine and chlorexidine not sure if i should leave open or attempt to wrap, apply antibiotic ointment? looks rough poor baby :( (this is one of the babies who was with the ones who died)
Hello, just yesterday i came home to a dead chick in its cage, it’s entire neck was exposed and it’s head tucked under the cage.
i went ahead and moved their cage and ensured there wasn’t space to crawl under, im not exactly sure where it’s body was as there is a few other chicks and mom and...
Hello, another update, he’s opened up his eye, he’s doing with coordination, but overall doing okay, he still sleeps a lot and still needs a little guidance with his food, i noticed that he will nonstop drink water or eat food until he’s pulled away, but other than that a few days ago he finally...
Little update, fed him some tuna and eggs, he’s very eager to eat on his own but misses so i assist him by bringing the plate up to him, i wiped down his eye and applied neosporin, his eye looks gray, i’ll try to get some pictures tonight, he’s napping after a nice meal, i examined the rest of...
Yes he’s pooped a few times, some runny some hard, his crop feels like it has a little food it in, his eye and that part of his head do seem swollen. He only eats when you bring the food close to his good eye, otherwise he’ll miss completely, and will be monitoring his water.
