    If i would have to guess i would say it died due to failure to thrive as its batchmates grew properly and were rehomed. Also I am more concered about the death of the hen as i already knew the chick wouldnt last long .

    Also forgot to mention that the chick was 8 weeks old yet the size of a week old and barely growing. Could it have been birth defects?

    My hen's only chick suddenly died and she was acting weak and breathing heavily with eyes closed, and an hour later she is dead. What could have happened? Was it mental trauma ? How can i prevent it in future ?

    The mama does steps in but since it is just a peck she doesnt usually bother. Btw i tried letting everyone out together and the roo is very gentle towards the chick even though he is very aggressive towards us.

    Also i dont specifically feed them anything. They free range in our property or our neighbours', but they also get bits leftover food.

    Bubbly eye ?

    One of my hens' right eye is bubbly. I readthey can be given erythromycin. I have some tablets left from what i was prescribed. Can it be used for chickens? If so what is the dosage for one chicken ?
