So if I bought a heritage rooster and hen and decided to hatch the eggs, I'd still be continuing the heritage breed. They just might not be considered "show" heritage chickens?

Maybe this question may clear some things up for me. Before apa was created and before farmers started to breed certain chickens to produce better egg layers are meat chickens, did farmers just breed a RIR with another RIR or were farmers always performing this heritage balancing act?
Thanks for the quick reply Fred. As I'm sure you know, most of the articles/books don't mention the fact you have to keep a balance when breeding heritage chickens. I've made the mistake of assuming that one heritage breed would just need breeding.
