8 loaves of bread for $1

I wish I could get it that cheap. The goats and chickens don’t care about the flavor but the cows take longer to eat the whole wheat so they get the white most of the time. I’ll ask about the “hog feed program” next time I’m there and see what they say. You’ll must have more bread that goes...

8 loaves of bread for $1

There is a used bread store in the city. They sell the bread by the load. You do have paperwork on file saying that you know it is not for human consumption. It is 10 cents a loaf, 5 cents for hotdog or hamburger buns. When you go you have no choice what you get as far as brand, out of date...

black oil sunflower seeds with shells on?

We grow our own BOSS and striped sunflowers. It just gets mixed into there grain mix. We do not crack them for the bigger birds but we do crack them for our babies. The striped sunflower seeds are fine fore them. They have a bit less of a nutritional valve but they digest them just fine. We...

    Salad for the chooks

We have 6” of snow / ice right now. I was headed back from the green house and tossed about a pound of stuff into the run. They would come out and grab a little bit of stuff and run back inside. They know I will not stop on the way back form the green to deliver there treats. Last time I...

I thought I know from the New York Colony of Arts program and looked it up to double check. It was a long time ago and I found a bad website I guess and it sounded right.

Can chickens be raised like Kobe beef?

Quote: I was board and needed something to do and let about 40 crickets out of there cage and into the cope. You should have seen the fight to get them things. After they calmed down some I opened the door for them to go out and the stood there to see if there were any more hiding in the...

Can chickens be raised like Kobe beef?

Kobe is a Wagyu and Angus breed together for US the US. The Angus helped then adapted to our weather better. Kobe cows are feed beer and grain but don’t forget there daily brushings. True Wagyu beef is out of Japan. It is very white (not red and not fat). The type of grain there feed is...

    duck

Flagra (sp) is duck liver that was feed corn to fatten them. It’s a French thing and it is the best. There best fried in a cast iron fry pan about half inch thick. As far as what meat is on a duck it is more or less just legs and breast. We save the livers till the end of the year and make...

I went from executioner to chicken god !

My wife milks a few goats for cooking and drinking. When she goes out to milk she will take the left over form the day before and poor it into a dish for the chickens. Unless she fills up both dishes with it there is a cat fight to drink it.

pics of homemade waters and feeders

Take a good size PVC pipe and cap both sides. Run it down your table saw, use a dermal, jig saw, drill, or what ever you can think of to cut a spot for them to eat out of it. Use a 90* elbow and it will keep it self full if you play around with it and don’t over fill it.

    will it fit?

We do it every year but with delaware’s. It’s fun to put the kiddy pool in the run and watch the chickens. I just can’t weight till I can move the ducks to there new home out at the pond.

    Why??? Doesn't make any sense

We only buy eggs once a year. It cost us $.25 to .50 more an egg then to get the duck before you look at the not hatching losses. But my wife loves to raise them and we think we have a lower chance of getting a new illness in our chicks. Peaguy is right about not needing extra packaging but...

Free woodchipps everywhere in the Ice storm states.

We have grown new potatoes in tires a bunch of years. When you add a tire make sure you fill it in good but do not pack the dirt to much. I have gone 6 high with huge tractor tires. As far as building up soil I like to get a bail of scrap paper and till it into the soil. As far as getting a...

    $2.25 Per Bird for Processing??

I would love to pay $3.25 a bird to get it done if it was local. The closest I know of is 115 miles away and there $2.70 and have to make an appointment and have 10 or more. We will butcher 50 or so a year our selves and I’m not driving that far unless I had a load of them at one time.
