The Making of a Walk-In Chicken Run

The time had come to build our girls their own large covered Run. We had a small flock of 4 hens and we built their coop the summer before. We had been using a 5x7 dog kennel as a run. Which worked ok.. But we wanted to expand our flock and have just have more space for winter time. Plus my...

What color did you paint your coop?

I always check the lowes clearance/return paint rack because one- I’m frugal. And two -I can’t decide on a color(s)! So my paint chooses itself. :) We named our coop The Clucking Cabana since the colors were so “beachy.” I was nervous it was too bright (and bold) at first, but its such a...

    Serama-mix gender ?

About 6 weeks old. Was told the chick on the left came from a sebright mom and serama dad. Boy or girl? The blue chick I think was an old English. We’re assuming rooster with a comb like that…? Could anyone give me tips on sexing seramas also? What about mixed breeds like these?

    Spitzhaubens

What makes them seem like males to you? Their hair or wattles? I’d like to know for the future as I’ll try for a hen :)

    Spitzhaubens

Got these two beauties at just a few days old from Rural King. They were in the “assorted polish” bin. We’ve had them for 9 weeks now. I’m pretty sure one of them is attempting to crow. Which stinks because we don’t want any more roosters in our small flock. Are these boys?

We have plenty of egg layers currently, we just don’t want any more roosters.

It wasn’t looking like a sebright when I’ve googled the breed. I’m thinking it’s crossed with serama. It doesn’t matter to me, I just wanted an egg layer :)
