Why do you guys choose to have backyard chickens?

You must get chickens they are wonderful, I love mine. I got them last summer as a birthday present, the coop doesn't need to be huge as they only sleep in it, and lay eggs in the 2 egg boxes.( I have 3 large Orpingtons and 2 small Polish). The Polish roost on the perch and the Orps cuddle up...

I got my 5 hens in July, 3 beautiful Orpingtons, Buff, Black, and Splash and 2 very endearing Polish. About 6 weeks ago my Buff Orp started to crow, unfortunatley I had to get rid of her, the supplier took her back and I looked around for a replacement. I wanted another buff around the same age...

    I have to talk POLISH!

I have 2 Polish a Frizzle and gold lace. They are very endearing and comical. They dont like the cold weather and snuggle into my Orpingtons when there is an icy blast. They are about 7 months old. Here are a few pics of them. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/111280_sam_1900.jpg...

    keeping warm

I bought a pet snuggle pad, which you put in the microwave for a few minutes and it stays warm for a several hours. I will wait until it gets very icy before I use it as I don't want to make my hens too soft. I have 3 Orpingtons which should be fine but my 2 Polish seem to feel the cold. These...

I had to supervise for several days as they were mean to her, my cute little Polish banties...

Wow that chunky chicken caviar sounds yummy stuff. I have 3 Orpingtons and 2 Polish and I give them some dried mealworm that they sell for wild birds, I just give them a handful and they go mad for it, very high in protein, they also like black sunflower seeds. You can also buy some suet mixture...
