Thanks for the feedback, I agree he does seem depressed since his favorite hen passed. I have googled rooster booster and it seems to be just a mix of probiotics and vitamins, you think this would help with his depression/stress?
I was told by someone if your not sure you can tell by how long his claw is on the back of each foot, and his are pretty long. Not sure how true that is. I will check his feet next time he is on his perch definitely.
Thank you im hoping so. Him not cuckoo'ing at the same time as his face going white, as well as him being grumpy and wanting to be alone a lot has just got me thinking all sorts 😥
Still seems grumpy, still pecks other hens around food only (never did this before) and has completely stopped cuckoo'ing. Also slept in the straw boxes that the hens lay in a few times, never did that before either 😂
Seems a little happier now 2 new hens have been introduced, but has been sleeping in the coop on his own and gets grumpy around food and pecks other hens (he has never done this before and always been so generous with feeding his hens). Face is still white too.
Come to the conclusion he is now...
Thanks again for your replies, has put me at ease. Got 2 new hens for him and gradually introducing them, hopefully that will help as well as some time.
Thanks for your reply and compliment to my chicken
Can I ask how he acted during that few weeks please? Was he hiding away? not active as much and not exploring? Also did his face go white at any point?
And lastly did he hit any of the hens during feeding time? (mine never has before only...
Thanks, I have had a read through and your explanation seems the most likely. Just cant understand why his face has gone white, hopefully will pass soon.
Thanks for your reply. He has fought off a fox before few years ago, but had no interaction with the fox from this most recent attack. Just worried about why he is acting so lethargic/ sheepish, and why his face has gone white.
Its been a strange couple weeks for him, his favorite 2 hens were taken by a foxes in the afternoon. He has not been acting normal since, stays in the coop a alot. Likes to hide amongst trees and doesnt cuckoo/ wander round and peck nowhere near as much as he did.
He seems to be eating...
Great, thanks alot guys I will give them their first coat tonight. What confuses me is that our other three chickens legs are fine, its just the 2 younger polish breeds we brought that have this kind of leg. Just wanted to make sure its not a case of them just having different legs to my other...
Hi
Thanks for your replies, they are about a year old. I have noticed this around 2-3 weeks ago.
How confident are you from the photos they are scaly leg mites please? Just want to make sure its not normal growth before I apply come coconut oil to them, they do seem to be very energetic and...
I have noticed my polish breed chickens leg looking thicker than it did, I have two one has legs that seem normal like always, but the other ones legs seem to have got bigger and crusty like. I have attached some photos, does anybody know what this is and if I should be alarmed?
They are both...
Thanks for your replies, so is it normal for him to moult in patches on his neck? the Hen is around 4 years old and the Cock around 6, not sure about exact age because they were my dads and he passed away last year.
And yes it is getting very cold here in england at the moment.
