    I really could write a book on how to pet a chicken. I’ve had a lot of practice, and know lots of tricks. Chapter 1, the approach: Be sure you’re clothing smells of meally worms, or chopped steak (or improvise ) Approach chicken with ungloved hand under its beak, never over its head. TBC

    Is it natural for a pet hen to pick at your socks? That beak hurts. She insists on pecking my socked big toe. Like a kitten or puppy would?🤔 I had to stop her, so I pulled her close and I talked and petted her gently for a while.
