Sudden blindness and head tilting/twitching in old chook

I apologise for the rather late reply, Ive been busy with afew things for awhile. Put her in a little pen that’s completely enclosed by herself and given her some vitamins, she seems to have figured out how to get up and down to roost at night by herself after gaining confidence in her safety...

Sudden blindness and head tilting/twitching in old chook

She seems to have found the water aswell, I forgot you said softgels and somehow manages to make that into gummies… For softgels the only ones I can find are 1000iu otherwise there isn’t anything else in softgel that is vitamin E, I don’t live in America so I don’t have access to Walmart and...

Sudden blindness and head tilting/twitching in old chook

Poo seems to have thankfully gone back to a normal colour, I did manage to get her to drink by herself a little when she went for a walk, she definitely wanted to drink just wasn’t sure where the water was. Will check her crop again soon, had a bit in it when I checked before, she has managed to...

Sudden blindness and head tilting/twitching in old chook

Her poop is a concerning colour, nothing I see about yellow poop looks very promising. Then heres her having a walk on the grass. .1 .2 I tried to get more videos uploaded, one of which showed how she didn’t react to things getting close to her face but they didn’t upload which was a bit annoying.

Sudden blindness and head tilting/twitching in old chook

Unable to get a video right now unfortunately, will take one asap. Did get a carrier cage for her as it’s easier to tend to her overnight if needed when she’s inside. I placed food and water and she does seem to be attempting to eat with terrible accuracy but she will eat anything she manages...

Sudden blindness and head tilting/twitching in old chook

Today I fed my chooks and everyone was fine, running around pecking at their food as they always do, not long ago got a call saying my old bantam hens head was twitching and she couldn’t walk properly and that she was just sitting on the edge of the water container, go out to check her myself...

    Drake going for hen

Uh… I didn’t really need the image 😅 I know about the anatomy issues, he was only after one chicken and after having her out of the pen for a day he let her be and hasn’t gone after anyone but the ducks since.

    Drake going for hen

Found an old coop that can only really hold one chook, we have the ducks trying to hatch some eggs currently so I’ll be putting the hen in the old coop so she can have a break from his advances and safe from anything too adventurous. I guess there really isn’t much of a choice even if he is...

    Drake going for hen

He isn’t an aggressive drake unlike most, and has enough hens to stop him from getting aggressive, I’ve had other drakes before so there’s definitely a difference in their disposition, we can’t house him anywhere else and he’s been there with them for ages without issue I know the risks but I’ve...

    Drake going for hen

I have both chickens and ducks in the same pen *can’t keep them seperate for afew reasons* for ducks there’s three hens and a drake and all the chickens are hens as we’ve had many issues with roosters and alot of random baby chickens found in places they normally never lay. Recently the drake...

Pecking order got a little too rough, chooks ear left without a cover

Looks like the bleeding finally stopped last night, unfortunately the dog decided to try and dig into the pen so had to fill that up.

Pecking order got a little too rough, chooks ear left without a cover

Will look into nutri-drench, currently have her in a small pen we have spare for any secret egg stash accidents and such. Might have to move the pen to somewhere the dog is less likely to go near though as she clearly dislikes him and he wants to investigate anything that exists ever, either...

Pecking order got a little too rough, chooks ear left without a cover

I was going to wait till tomorrow but managed to get some picks today, the blue is the antibacterial spray, I forgot to take a picture of the less injured side.

Pecking order got a little too rough, chooks ear left without a cover

I’ll try getting a picture tomorrow, chooks currently roosting and would rather let the poor thing rest. Basically I put this chook in with the others after it got old enough and while they’ve been picking on the poor thing for the past few months its been in there it’s always been able to get...

Duck always nesting but no eggs

She funnily enough wasn’t broody when laying before, so maybe she’s just starting to work things out I guess.
