I LOVE when my girls will stretch one foot back with one wing and do a long stretch. It's like the beginning of some expressive modern dance interpretation. I also love when they run full force wings flapping if they become seperated. The 4 of them are joined at the hip!
So now we have:
Georgia - Buff Orpington
Martha - Ameracuana mix
Savanah - Black
Paisley - Black
and tomorrow we will have two silkies!
Cotton - White silkie
Avaley - Black silkie :)
Awesome, so how many weeks should they be in a brooder? I know I'm supposed to lower the wattage to room temperature but then do I take the heat lamp off? And how many weeks until they can go outside. 6 right?
Hello fellow BYCers! I'm here with a brooder question. I am thinking about ordering 4-6 chicks from Meyer's hatchery. I have a 20 gallon long tank and am wondering if that would be sufficient for either 4 or 6 chicks. Secondly, what bulb wattage do I need for the heat lamp? I've heard 250w, then...
Thank you both for being so helpful! Being a first time chicken mom I find myself worrying about anything that they do that I haven't read about, haha.
Hello BYC!
I recently became the proud flock mama of 4 beautiful hens. They are roughly 6 weeks old I've been told. One is a Buff Orpington, 2 of them are all black (possible Orpington's?) and one if half Ameracauna.
They have been in there new coop for a fews days now. The coop is a room build...
Hello fellow chicken lovers!
I live in Massachusetts and am currently looking for some hardy chickens that will do well in an indoor coop. So far, I've decided on Orpington's and a silkie BUT I was wondering what other chicken breeds go well with these two? I want a variety so I can tell them...
Oh yes! Will you be at the poultry show? My coop is under construction at the moment. Scraping old chicken poop is like jackhammering cement! So far I'm working on a paint job, washing the floor with vinegar and water and trying to disinfect for my new little ones. I probably won't be ready for...
Hello!
I'm in Massachusetts and looking for four Orpington sexed female chicks and a black silkie! Preferably black, blue, buff and white for the Orpington's (so I can tell them apart)
Thanks!
Carly
Just beginning my coop and I am BEYOND excited! I'm looking for four Orpington's (preferably different colors; blue, black, buff and white) and a black Silkie. I've read about the Orpington's being fabulous layers and also okay in a colder climate. We have an indoor coop that will stay nice and...
Hello! My name is Carly and I am excited to begin my search for chickens! I live in Massachusetts and am wondering the best places to buy chicks from. I'm interested in incubating and have done some research. I just don't know where I can get reputable eggs from. Any suggestions would be greatly...
