Will see what I can do about getting a necropsy done. Have noted your suggestions on cleaning out coop with bleach etc. Am trying to keep chicks as far from the unhealthy birds as possible but we don't have a huge area. While it is grim, it's also amazing how quickly whatever bug it was wiped...

Yeah, it was pretty much blue -used to be red - that was distinctive. Bodies put into black plastic bags and taken away for disposal by special collection.

    Ayam Bekisar

Only thing is they are not really domesticated - take a lot of TLC/ very high maintenance. I had 2 but neither lasted long - both would only eat meal worms and were not comfortable around rest of the flock, sadly. They are quite skittish/wild, and when they jump they really launch into the air...

What is your favorite chicken breed?

Bekisar! Pain in the neck to look after but by far the best looking chickens full stop. Otherwise my own Arab cross local hybrids -Easiest to look after and super tough

Gave the remaining birds vaccine this morning. All looking v subdued tho. Another 10 deaths so far today - 19 in two days. My best birds! :hit:hit:hit On the positive side there's still a bunch of caged chicks all looking fine. Will do my best to keep them away from the carnage. This...

Thanks for the advice. Nine dead all up today. Yeah really sad. I spoke to local poultry supply store and they recommended a vaccine that I hadn't realised was available - for Newcastle disease. Needs to be refrigerated apparently - then one drop per bird every three months. Will treat...

Bit of a disaster this morning. 6 dead hens in the coop. Don't know if this related to sick rooster but am guessing so. May also have been second dusting of Sevin in a week. :(:(:(:(:(:( Those were after two deaths day before. Think this is not over yet. Many looking subdued today. As...

Alas looks like we were too late with treatments - looks very bad this morning. Not expecting him to last much longer. Lying down in cage :(

@Wyorp Rock, thanks for this - we've varied up his diet and he seems to be eating now, but tilting his head to one side a bit, which is slightly weird. Pretty sure he has a bit of discharge/mucous. Don't have antibiotics on hand - local remedy has been to give powdered psuedoephidrine, which has...
