    Mealworm farming

Thanks everyone:) I have mine in oats, bran, with some powdered milk as well. I probably have a bit much bedding. This all seems too easy! I can't wait for the new generation of mealies:)

    Mealworm farming

I know this has been a answered before, but I haven't found it after going through many pages. I have hundreds of beetles, as I started with 5,000 mealies. I've had numerous beetles for the past month to 6 weeks. When should I start seeing babies? The eat anything I give them practically...

First eggs.....getting ready for the avalanche!

So happy for you!! We have 2 RIR that are laying daily. We also have 5 hens that are 17-18 weeks old, and I feel like I'm waiting for childbirth to occur, in anticipation of that first egg from our babies. I study each of them daily, and with exception if the BR, none have much of a comb yet. Do...

    Mealworm farming

Pardon my stupidity, as I have read A LOT about mealworm breeding/farming, but am I overloaded in this 10 gallon bin? It's hard to see the number of beetles, since their little rears scurried when I moved the cover and introduced light. There has to be 200+ beetles, and TONS of pupa are...

Where can I find WheatBran to raise mealworms or can I just use something else that's cheaper?

I had to use oatmeal, as the feed stores near us only carry rice bran. I ordered wheat bran from Vitacost.com last week. It was around $5 for 3 bags. They also have it on Amazon.

    Questions about raising Meal Worms

Thank you all for the help! I don't close the lid. It has about a 2 inch gap on top. I can cut a hole in the top easily. Will do that this evening. I am using a single bin due to time. We have 6 children, so time is not to my advantage most days:) I may decide to do the drawer system if mine get...

    Questions about raising Meal Worms

I have a few questions as a newbie with mealworms. I started with 3,000. I've fed a few hundred to the flock. I started them in oatmeal, and added wheat bran once I found a place to purchase it. I've had them 10 days and already have 2 beetles that I can see. I've added cucumber peels, baby...

We live in a rural area, so I get organic produce, pantry items, etc. Them having the feed is just an added...

    Chickens Free Ranging First Time!

They've done great! My son went out to shut the coop, and announced they were all sleeping on the perches. They had fun, and I'm sure found all kinds of yummies in the yard!

    Chickens Free Ranging First Time!

I am new here and have learned so much! Thank you to all who post valuable information. We have 2 laying hens, and six 14-week-old hens. We live in town with a fenced in yard. There are a couple escape routes that we secured. This could get interesting! Lol! Is there anything I should know or be...
