Sudden patches of missing feathers on necks, below beak

Thank you all for the assistance. It's ongoing, and I've separated the suspect for an entire week to no real avail. I'm just going to let them be, as they are, as long as there are no injuries. I've started adding hanging feeders with greens to the run every morning, and an occasional treat...

    Chicken leg injury

I just noticed my 2 y o hen having the same issue as described above. She was free ranging but now she is sitting in the grass in the shade (a hot day in the PNW). Every time she gets up, she can barely put weight on it. Ideas? Our roost is perhaps too high- 26 inches?

Sudden patches of missing feathers on necks, below beak

Wow- I see it. Thanks for sharing. I think the plucking is happening during egg laying, and one hen doesn't have the u Issue so my eye is on her as the culprit.

Sudden patches of missing feathers on necks, below beak

Thank you- that's very helpful. I keep waiting, hoping it will stop, being sure to give them no stressors that I can control (low food, water, space, etc...) so I'll keep waiting and hope it will resolve, eventually. There are no injuries yet, just bald spots. Pinless peepers are an option for...

Sudden patches of missing feathers on necks, below beak

So, now it's happening on 4 of 5 of my hens. I put NuStock on them repeatedly but it doesn't seem to help stop the problem. The BO pictured above still has the worst, and very similar bald patch happening. I see the new feathers appearing, and then suddenly they're gone again and the hens are...

Sudden patches of missing feathers on necks, below beak

Hello all. I need some advice. I noticed two days ago that my Buff Orpington has a bald patch under her beak. It seemed to appear overnight. I've been observing her behavior and the bald patch since then and it doesn't seem to be getting bigger. She also acts normally, lays her eggs, eats...

Introducing solo new hen SUCCESS story

Spoiler Alert: It only took 3 weeks to have a cooperative flock of 5, after integrating one solo hen (same age/similar size/different color) into a current flock of 4. I'm sharing my experience here because it was what I was looking for before I embarked on this journey. To start, I made a...

Introducing solo new chicken - terrible idea???

I'm curious to know if Miranda was accepted into your flock. I am in a similar situation with introducing one hen we know & love to our flock of 4. Same ages, same sizes. Been using the See, No Touch method (except for an occasional grapple between the wire with each other) for 6 days now. It...

Buff orpington poop caked on butt

Update: I found another thread from a few days ago with similar advice and a few people talked about using the kitchen sink with sprayer (I can't go there) BUT I have a utility sink with sprayer and that worked GREAT! We also have a Rhode Island Red who is NOT warm and fuzzy and is quick to...

Buff orpington poop caked on butt

Hi. I have a BO, too, with a huge ball of poop stuck under her vent, very close to her skin. Any advice on best way to give a butt bath? She's pretty calm and loves to sit on our laps, but not sure she'll be so complacent with water involved. Thanks!

    Pale & shrunken comb/wattles + more

Ooops! That's what happens when I go too fast- yes, probiotics is what you suggested. Thank you for clarifying.

    Pale & shrunken comb/wattles + more

A belated THANK YOU! for the info above! I read it, zeroed in on electrolytes and immediately went to add some to their water. Either Lorraine was already on the mend, or those electrolytes worked magic. She seems healthy & energetic now.

    Pale & shrunken comb/wattles + more

Hello All. I need advice on whether to take my hen to the vet or not. She is a 9 month old Speckled Sussex who hasn't laid eggs (maybe a couple 2 months ago, but none for a long while) and has had strange behaviors on & off. About 6 weeks ago, she went very still for a day but quickly regained...
