    Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

    Momma and the chick are doing great this morning. Not sure about the egg she pecked a hole in. Guess I will know in a few days. I sure hope I get more than one chick she has five more eggs counting the one she pecked it was still alive last night but I didnt look at it this morning.

    Need fast help please!

    I dont have an incubator. She hatched one chick that is doing great. The egg with a hole I stuck back with her after dark. It was still moving but I doubt it will make it. Maybe a case of her not knowing what is going on. She is doing great with the chick that made it so far.

    Found a dead chick with my broody hen

    I put the hen and the eggs in a dog crate like you said. It has more room than where she was and it may have been too hot or maybe another hen interfered. The egg that piped hatched and the chick seems to be fine, but mom pecked a big hole in a different egg. I am just going to have to see...

    Here is momma with the one that lived so far. Not a great pic but I had to stick the camera in the dog crate lol. You can just see the little black chick poking its head out.

    This morning my broody hen had a dead chick in with her not sure what happened but there did seem to be quite a bit of yolk and one of the other eggs had some of that on it. A second egg has pipped and not hatched. I went out to peek at it and the hen was eating this egg! I watched her peck...

    My broody hen hatched a chick this morning that I found dead. It was still wet and there was quite a bit of sticky yolk I think. I have one more that has a small hole in the shell and is trying to get out. Any ideas why the chick is dead? Does the hen not know what she is doing? I sure...

    Found a dead chick with my broody hen

    I brought the egg that is hatching inside since I dont know why the other one died. It is in a box with a heat lamp over it. It is working at the hole in the egg please let me know if I need to do something different.
