    Tips for male muscovies?

also yes the girls are fine to eat. Not worth parting out as much. Roast them low and slow or slowcooker/pressure cooker muscovy is amazing- falling off the bone or in a soup. Best broth.

    Tips for male muscovies?

hanging upside down does help but not to the same degree as a chicken. I highly recommend using a cone, one sized for geese or heritage turkey is best. Their wings are very powerful and they will be calmer/not flapping in a cone. In a pinch you can zip tie their feet together and make a "cone"...

Calling all Hmong (black meat) chicken breeders

Agreed mine are great foragers. I heard one of the boys crow today so I guess it's butcher time. I keep thinking they don't look ready but they must be bigger than I think. How big are yours at 3 months? Do you have any favorite ways to cook them?

Awesome!! I haven't butchered yet but I am happy they feel like meaty birds. What age do you usually grow out to? What do you feed and how often. I switched mine to a higher protien gamebird feed and they seem to look even healthier and lay more. I'll take some photo updates today.

How many flocks have you seen/where/why? Thank you for replying! I have read extensively about the Fibro hmong, they are definitely not originally created stateside (although they may have been made here as well which is an interesting explanation to the 2 body types.) My understanding is...

I'm in the PNW unfortunately. I have thought about picking up some other fibros but I'd rather keep these guys pure hmong. I missed buying some silver hmong in Ridgefield WA, they were posted and then taken down..in case you're still out there!!

I have access to about 40 layers so I'm going to bring a few down to give these hens some relief. Two have gone broody so the breeding pressure is just too much, I'm starting to see rooster damage. I hadn't thought about actually crossing them, it would be easy enough to do. I've seen some...

I like their size for meat, I believe they are bigger than ayam cemani but I've never seen an AC in person myself.

one of the full grown hens has some red feathering. It's hard to see but some of the chicks have patterned feathers. Some even have white feathers. The roosters are soo pretty.

Calling all Hmong (black meat) chicken breeders

Hi, I am a newbie at breeding hmong and I am having a hard time finding much info on the breed. I have a bunch hatched out but I don't really know how to select for the breed. I'm torn between selecting for size/fibro characteristics and maintaining the diversity of the landrace. I was...

    haybrooder experiment

I did fill hot water bottles to put in the brooder at night those first few weeks. It's amazing how much their bodies keep the space heated since it's so insulated. I will get some pictures together, its very simple once you see it.
