    My first chickens

    This is my first time keeping chickens. These are Nankins that I ordered from Ideal. So I'm guessing I have Nankin/OE mix. The others, Black Stars, were sent to keep the Nankins warm. Not keeping them, they are all roosters. They are all 4 weeks as of 30 April 2013.

    Chicken Tractor

    Made with reclaimed wood from an industrial business who gives away large used pallets for free. The frame was made from ripping 2x6's down to 2x2. The coop from the pallet slats cut to size. All the expense came from the wire, wheels and hardware (about $50).

    When to thin the Roosters

    New to raising chickens, Placed my 1st ordered of 20 chicks, Nankins, due in a few weeks. Have a pretty good handle on most of what I need to do. But, inevitably I'm going to have thin the roosters out. At what age should I decided which one to keep? Thanks for your help.

    Hello BYC, new to the flock

    Looking to transform a portion of my shed and backyard to raising a few bantams. Will start working on the coop and run soon. Hopefully be done by spring and purchase some chicks. Looking to raise Nankins. Have been doing lots of research on BYC, a ton of great information, thanks.
