Hello all - first time hatching BLRWs and getting attached to these 5 wk old chicks. 1 is single combed (not pictured) and pretty sure she’s a pullet. These other 2 have beautiful colouring and I think are probably Roos - I know it’s too early really but any ideas re their sex much appreciated...
We have a lovely barnevelder roo and a mixed flock of hens including a lovely splash laced Wyandotte. Presumably breeding the two would result in something blue laced- would it be single laced like Wyandotte or double laced like barnevelder? Anyone done this cross and then back-crossed? Thanks!
Hi - don’t fret too much re lack of copper - we have 2 now 16 week old BCM pullets from different sources. 1 had almost no copper and the other very well marked… up until a couple of weeks ago when our less coppery one developed some beautiful coppery hackle feathers. She’ll never be quite as...
Sorry for more silkies! I have 3 x 9-week olds- a black (with lots of gold leakage), a gold/buff and a mix! I’m pretty sure the mix is a cockerel - his feet are enormous and he’s about twice the size of the others/ his comb also has rows of bumps on it and is quite wide. The other 2 I’m less...
So I got back from trip to visit relatives with kids today and my husband told us one of the hens had sadly died. About an hour later, I was watering in the greenhouse when I heard a tapping sound from one of the small metal flowerpots stored just outside the shed. I turned it over, and there...
Hello! So we have 1 pullet and 1 cockerel from same breeder (from hatching eggs) who are like welsummers in every regard.... except that they have silked feathers. They are now 8 weeks old. There is no black skin or 5th toes to suggest any silkie in their make-up, and their shape is exactly...
Thanks for all your replies - they still seem to be growing well (now 8 weeks old) and still look like a Welsummer but with silkied feathers! Quick pic I took at chick bedtime Of the pullet but will take some more later... we still have the cockerel too but he’s a bit of a scaredy cat and always...
Sound like the consensus is it’s Peggy 😃🎉🎉 kids will be so happy - I have been saying every day that we might have to let her/him go, so they will be v delighted that she can stay as they watched her hatching 🐣😍😍
Here we are - 8 week update pics and I am now daring to believe that she might just be a pullet... no wattles yet at all. Not such good pics today as she was mostly free ranging and so a bit skittish going in for the evening! Grateful for any thoughts...
Ok 7 week update today! Pics not the best today as it was quite rainy and chicks quite flighty... profile ones still look female to me and behaviour female, but the closeup makes that comb look super red!!
Ooh I do hope so - she’s very funny and lovely with big (but slender!) feathery legs! Thank you for your thoughts - the Queen it is - maybe we should call it Elizabeth (we’re in Uk! )... 👑 👸😅
So this chick was the most enormous one for ages, and we were so convinced he was a cockerel that we named him “the king”. But “his” legs are not as chunky as our other bcm roo (seen in the last pic) and his comb/wattles are nothing like as obvious. “He” could be a late developer, I know, but...
I’m pleased I found this thread - I have a pair of Silked welsummers! They are only 7 weeks old but will upload pics soon! Anyone else have this? Dying to know if my female will still lay the dark brown Welsummer egg! And whether the male will develop any green feathers 🤷🏻😂Anyone else have...
