Thank you for everyone's help! We've googled LOTS of pictures and breeds this evening and it appears that we may have a White Rock. The pictures we've seen look exactly like her and blogs we've seen describe her personality to a tee. :)
We call them dark brown, because in comparison to our other hens' eggs, it's the darkest. Here is a picture of their eggs. Dark = Blondie (unknown breed), Middle Brown = Ginger (New Hampshire Red), Lightest (Pinky Brown) = Layla (Silver Laced Wyandotte)
Thanks for the quick responses!
As we read more, we wanted to add a bit more information that may be helpful. She's about 5 lbs. (smaller than our New Hampshire Red) and she's a very regular layer - same time every morning.
Since joining BYC, we're learning that Blondie isn't really a Golden Laced Wyandotte after all. We're posted a thread here - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/844319/white-hen-with-golden-blonde-highlights-what-breed-is-she - we'd love to know what breed she is if you're able to help. :)
Since joining BYC, we're learning that our hen, Blondie, isn't a Golden Laced Wyandotte like we'd originally thought. When we bought her as a chick (from a farm store), the chicks were apparently mislabeled as GLWs. As a chick, she was all yellow. Now almost 10 months old, she is white with...
Thanks for all the feedback.
We did end up bathing her today. She looks (and feels) so much better! We spent about 45 minutes blow drying her on low, warm heat until she was totally dry before taking her back outside. We decided to nix the vaseline. We spoke to someone at our local chicken...
It's winter in Indiana and it's gotten cold fast. This is our first winter with the girls and we read that we should put vaseline on their combs and wattles to prevent frostbite. Well apparently they don't like it much because they've been dusting a lot (we have a pan full of ash available for...
Hi all!
We're new to Backyard Chickens and wanted to post a quick introduction!
Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We got chickens in March 2013. We bought six sexed chicks. One (Emelia) died within the first couple of weeks, she just never got any bigger. And another...
