    It didn't make it through the night. She never did manage to make a noise when peeping, more just a clicking noise and her belly button was still pretty big. We either assisted too much or it was never meant to be.

    Duckling has been hatching for 4 days and finally got out of its shell but it has a protruding belly button and is trying to peep but no sound is coming out. I put some bacitracin on the belly button stump to help with infection and drying out. What do you think?

    thanks, thats a relief! I just kicked the other girls out of the run where she is. They will just have to free-range in the fenced backyard with each other. We don't get night predators where I live and they have favorite spots to hide under some branches.
