Thanks for the explanation and links.
I have 13 layers so I have no idea which hen laid the egg, but I will keep an eye out for more strange eggs or stressors that might be causing this.
Thanks again!
I found an egg with no shell in the coop yesterday. That is not totally unheard of. What surprised me, was that this egg had a tail!!!
Can someone please explain to me what is going on here.
aart: Google "aerobic treatment system" Pretty much all new homes who don't have city sewage are required to have this system in Dallas/ South Dallas (TX) counties because of our "black clay" soil.
Thank you for your thoughts. I keep chlorine tablets in the pipe like I was instructed. My girls don't show any sign of being sick, but I am concerned that the eggs will make us sick. It seems like animals always have a stronger stomach than humans.
My chickens are fenced in the backyard. My problem is I have an arobic septic system and the sprinklers come on to drain the tanks. The yard is big enough for them to get away from the sprinkler when it turns on, but will they avoid the septic water or will they think it is just raining and go...
I'm sorry. I was being a little "bratty" myself. I never thought about the English as a second language...
I will not allow anyone to chase the chickens. Case closed!
You are 100% correct! I believe no "chrilden" should be allowed to "case" the chickens. After all, chickens work all day and have so many responsibilities, the last thing they need is some "bratty chirden" constantly "atticting" them.
Come on, People!
I already said the problem is solved!
have you had these chickens since they were chicks?
My chickens are still very scared of any humans, even after giving them treats.
But then again i have only had them 3 weeks and they were already grown when i got them.
@Sumi:
That is aweful.
I was right; it was a passing fancy. he has already lost interest in chasing them, and now just wants to feed them, collect eggs, and give them treats.
thanks guys. i will explain to the kids that if they want to play with chickens, that it will have to be with their mcnuggets.
seriously though, i will explain that they have to be cautious and nice to them so they will eventually get used to humans and might even let the kids touch them.
