    New babies! Breed / gender?

Baby update: We think we have four girls and a boy! One of the SLW babies has a redder comb and less tail feather development. Also he looks and act JUST like his daddy: very rooster-y! LOL! As such, we have dubbed him Junior. Not the greatest pic, but they’re so hard to photograph! The...

    Silver Laced Wyandotte Cockerel?

I had one that was much smaller than the rest and wasn’t doing well. We separated her for a couple of days and gave her lots of love, heat, and vitamins. She perked up almost immediately and was able to go back with her friends after 2 days. She never did get as large as the others. She’s 2...

Pecked in the eye by a chicken??

Yep! Twice! Both times was by a month old cockerel that I hand raised. (Long story). I wasn’t looking him in the eye. He was just investigating. He has since learned not to, thank goodness, because WOW did it hurt!!!

    New babies! Breed / gender?

Thank you! I’ll dig around and see if I have any pics of Smidgen (the older one) as an adult. Unfortunately, she was a dog attack victim. Or coyotes - we aren’t sure. (Between that and the hawks this year, it has been rough!) But I can tell you that she was solid black with some iridescence...

    New babies! Breed / gender?

We didn’t figure we’d be able to sex yet, but we weren’t sure if any other combos besides the SLW/BR would be sex linked. And is is very likely they’re all from our alpha roo. He’s a rather Randy fellow. 😂

    New babies! Breed / gender?

We had a broody hen who changed her mind after sitting for a few days, so we grabbed her eggs and put them in the incubator. Last night the last one hatched. We have the following in our flock: Alpha roo - SLW Roo - RIR Hens: SLW RIR BO BR Baby 1: Solid black - we assume this is a girl...

    Bumblefoot?

We used regular iodine, which was messy but helped. The clear stuff came in yesterday, so we’re using it today when we bring her in. I have no idea if there’s any difference besides color. She’s an awfully good sport about all this. The mealworms help, LOL!

    Bumblefoot?

The scab came off with tweezers - not in one piece. (No such luck there!). We got some duck booties in, but I’m not sure they’re going to fit her, so I may have to try again there. Thanks!

    Bumblefoot?

Update - After we soaked her the next time, we found that the infection had become more obvious. Lots more white marbling that could be removed with tweezers. It resembled the bumblefoot kernels I’ve seen on my chicken before - just not in one piece. Ugh! In hindsight, I should have taken...
