2 weeks have passed so I thought I would follow up on this, although it seems few are interested...
A couple of days after this post the bird took a turn for the worse. The effected area was bleeding from a crater that I suspect was pecked into it by the hens or by the rooster himself. I could...
I only have one rooster. I honestly don't know what it is, but I know it has gotten worse over the weeks. The extension agent said it was a result of mites after looking at the picture but told me to consult a veterinarian.
This bird has never been handled and I don't know how to catch him or...
I was told this is mites, but I'm not sure and I don't know what the best treatment is.
He is the only chicken effected.
It started as what looked to be a few feathers mising, but it has gotten much worse quickly.
Not it is bleeding and he is pecking at it.
Other than this he has no symptoms...
Hank was traveling and decided to stop here a few days ago. I suppose someone may be looking for a rooster. They can have him if they can catch him....cause I can't.
I don't think he will be on his way anytime soon. He seems to like it here and I don't see the harm in in it.
I don't know what...
Thanks for your help. Will keep an eye on it and see what develops.
We are seeing improvement in behavior since the egg was laid. So we were thinking the egg was the cause, not a symptom. But like I said I'm not sure which chicken laid the egg.
We have 1 bird who was acting strangely for about a week. She disappeared then reappeared...was very lethargic and kept away form the other birds. Egg production all but ceased for a few day and then we found this. I can't be sure which chicken produced this egg ( we have 3). But I know it was 1...
We have 3 Pekin ducks. 1 Drake and 2 hens. The drake has been "Getin Busy" here this weekend.
I'm wondering how this works. I suppose there will soon be eggs..... and there should be a nest then right?
Is this hen going to build it?
What do I need to provide to get a family going here?
Thanks...
HI,
This is not our first time with keeping chickens but it may as well be. We have a good sized parcel in a rural area with a relatively big pond. We a couple of Serama hens years ago and that went well until they were taken...presumably by air, but it was never decided.
I was looking on...
